Chapter 1 - Death

"Pathetic." Yep. These were the first words that I heard after I opened my eyes. As for who's calling me pathetic? That would be the girl in front of me clad in a goth outfit.

Right behind her, I see a woman who looks like she's in her mid-twenties. "Greetings Mr. Akuma Kazuya. My name is Sein. I am the goddess of life, cycles, life cycles, and everything under that category." She said. "I see," I said. Following the usual Isekai trope which is usually in the anime and manga that I like... I died in a stupid way, got sent to God's domain or wherever, unlock an overpowered cheat skill or power, and then will be reincarnated into a fantasy world. "By the way Sein, who is that tiny goth beside you?" I ask. "This tiny goth is the goddess of darkness and everything under that category. Her name is Yami." Replied Sein. "Hey! I'm not tiny! Just... vertically challenged!" Yami snapped back. "More importantly, do you remember the pathetic way in which you died Akuma?" She asks.

If I remember correctly... I was watching an anime with my childhood friend Sasha. Then after a while, her dad (who hates me for no reason by the way) came in drunk, saw me, and literally threw me outside from the second floor. After that happened I got run over by a bicycle. Then a slasher tripped over a rock and stabbed my arm, The police shot at him but hit my legs instead. Then, a car swerved and ran over my other arm. When all of that was over and I still hadn't died, I made the simple mistake of raising a death flag. 'How?' you ask? "Wow, I'm surprised I haven't died yet," I said. Then I got hit in the face with a baseball which killed me.

If I'm being honest with myself I have to give props to Yami for being able to sum up my death into one word. "Yep, I can remember how I died." I answered dejectedly. There was a moment of silence. "Okay good. That's one thing down. Now, let me explain how your reincarnation will work." says Sein. "Cheat ability time!" I exclaim. "Well, something like that." replies Yami.

"You would first need to form a contract with a god or a goddess; an Almighty or Almighty being If you will. The Almighty being that you would like to form a contract with has to correlate to the skill that you would like." explains Sein "There are only a limited number of Almighty beings that you will be able to choose from." "So basically what your saying is, if I wanted to be a pyrokinetic I would have to form a contract with the almighty being of fire, right?" I asked. This time it was Yami who responded. "That is correct. Also, the way in which you contract your desired almighty being is by beating them in a game. Obviously, we almighty beings will be the ones to decide the game." Yami concluded. "Now that you understand how reincarnation and contracts work, will you please tell me the ability that you would like?" Asked Sein. I then proceed to whisper into her ear my desired skill.

"Wouldn't I need to play against the Goddess of Creation for that?" I asked. "What was it?! What was it?!" Asked the 'vertically challenged' goth. If you see how she looks and the way she behaves, you almost forget she's a goddess and not a little girl. "Actually," Sein started, "I believe this skill would lean more towards Yami's district as the Goddess of Darkness rather than the Goddess of Light." "Okay then... Yami! Let's have a match!" I said. "Fine but I have a condition. I'll only play you if you say 'I Akuma Kazuya, challenge Yami, Goddess of Darkness to a contract game!" replied Yami. Before I could process the words, my body moved on its own. "No. That sounds stupid." I snapped back almost instantly. "Well then, it looks like there will be no contract from me so you'll have to say "bye-bye" to your skill." Yami replied. Wow. This goth costume-wearing goddess who looks like a sixth-grader is trying to blackmail me! Boy is this girl getting on my nerves! I looked towards Sein for help but she just shrugged as if to say, Don't look at me, it's not like I can do anything about it.

Ditching the last of my pride and sanity, I said with my best "Cash from Mokepon" Impression, "I Akuma Kazuya, challenge you, Yami the Goddess of Darkness to a contract game!" There was a moment of silence. "Wow, you actually said it. I honestly wasn't expecting that. By the way, you watch too much Mokepon." said the goth who was visibly struggling to hold back her laughter. I turned around and saw Sein holding her stomach and laughing without restraint. "Can we move on to the game now?" I said with a flushed face. "Sorry. Sorry. I didn't have a 'Dark game' or whatever set up beforehand so we're just going to play a luck-based game. And by we, I mean you. Anyway, you have to roll a six with a die, pick the red card, and then land the coin on heads. You have three tries to get all of them in a row. Also! The cards will be shuffled after each try. This Sein over here, will play the 'zebra' for this game." Explains Yami. "You ready?" She asks. "Yes. Also, nobody calls refs zebras." I answer. Yami opens her mouth about to say something, but before the words come out Sein shouts; "Let the contract game begin!"
