This is definitely one of my favorite shorts/one shots I've ever written.
-------
You roll over in bed at the sound of your daughter's shrieking laughter, echoing in the halls of your house.
"Babe, wake up," your husband whines next to you, "Your daughter is awake."
"Before seven am, she is your daughter."
Jack leans over, his breath ghosting on your cheek as he whispers, "Fine, but tomorrow, she's all yours."
You can't help but laugh sleepily as you pull the covers back over your head, listening to him get out of bed, shuffle over to the bathroom and then proceed downstairs. A few extra hours of sleep sounds great right about now.

When you wake up again, it's 9:54 am. You grab a shower and marvel at the silence you are met with afterwards. You pull your towel just a little closer to your body and decide to meander downstairs to locate the other two thirds of your family. You are instead met with a note.
Hey baby -
Our little princess and I decided that mommy needed a break for the day. I'm gonna take her a few places, hopefully tire her out so you and I can have some alone time. ;)
Love you,
Jack.
You smile at his note and decide to catch up on reading the many books you've put off for a later date—that later date is today. You spend so much time in your favorite window seat, getting through six books in a matter of hours, that you don't even hear them come in.
"Mommy!" you hear a pair of familiar voices yell, "We're home."
They both run over to you, animatedly chatting about their day together; you manage to pick out bits and pieces of things.
"We went to the zoo and we saw the monkeys and the tigers and the prairie dogs and all the birdies and the giraffes and the elephants."
"And then what, baby?"
"And then we went to the movies and we watched Nemo in 3-D, and ate lots of popcorn and stuff but I was still hungry; Daddy says I have his appetite. Anyways, we went to get pizza and I am full," your daughter exclaims, her head full of curls bouncing with her every excited word.
"Sounds like someone had a very fun day with daddy today," you say with a broad smile, pressing a kiss to her forehead. She says something about needing to find a home for her new stuffed animal that she got from the zoo and races upstairs; just like her father, always racing around, always on level 100.
"Does that mean daddy's gonna have a very fun evening with mommy?" your husband asks, grinning at you in an almost carnal way.
You roll your eyes but return his grin, standing to stretch after hours of sitting in the same position. He looks at you with big eyes and an innocent pout but you shake your head.
"We'll see, Barakat."
