I don't know where and I don't know when- p
"Come on," She pushed me lightly, her bag hitting the side of my arm as well. I rolled my eyes, shaking my head.
"I told you, I don't need it!"
She frowned. "You haven't even heard what she's like yet! I swear she's nice!"
"I don't need you setting up blind dates for me, Mrs. Assistant," I replied bluntly, the corners of my mouth shooting upwards. "I'm perfectly capable of finding a suitable girlfriend myself."
"Yeah," she mumbled, narrowing her eyes. "Says the guy who hasn't dated anyone in six years."
I shrugged, turning my attention to the line in front of me. It was six in the morning and here I was, in a coffee shop with my not-so-assistant Anna.
"I've been too busy to worry about having a girlfriend, anyways."
The people at the register finally called my name, after having me wait less than 10 minutes and I stood by the side as Anna waited for her drink.
"I swear they make your coffee faster because you're a guy," She grumbled, obviously not enjoying the fact that she had to wait longer for her drink.
I chuckled and placed my lips on my cup. But that was when I heard it.
I froze, catching my breath. I watched as she walked over to the register, a smile on her face as she thanked the cashier for her drink.
It was her.
"Hey," Anna asked, hitting my arm lightly. "What's your problem?"
I quickly recovered, not realizing that I had already handed my drink to Anna and my legs were moving me towards her.
Her, still unaware of my presence, looking down at her iPhone; her coffee in her other hand.
I stopped a couple feet in front of her, hesitating for a second.
It's been six years since I've last seen her, what if she doesn't want to talk to me?
"Move, man," Someone grumbled in annoyance, pushing me a couple feet forward.
Her eyes shot up and landed on me, her lips parting as she stared at me in confusion.
"Uh..." I hesitated, a nervous smile on my lips as I ran my hand through my hair. "Hello?"
"Hello," she replied, her voice lacing with shock and caution as she placed her phone in her back pocket.
We stayed like that for a while, just staring at each other as if we were the only ones in this coffee shop. People still moved around us, but I completely blocked her out, my attention focused on her.
"So," I started, only to break the silence. "We haven't seen each other in a while."
"A long while," she commented, now realizing what was going on. She slowly sipped on her drink, her eyes still on me the whole time. "How are you?"
"Good," I replied, all too quickly. "I mean, I've had some bad days. I mean, hasn't everyone? We're only human. I mean.. That's not what I meant. I... I don't know."
The corners of her mouth curved up as she started to laugh. She laughed into her coffee cup, giving me enough time to close my eyes and take in a deep breath.
Breathe, man, breathe. Don't blow it.
"Do you wanna...um... Do you want to.... Or we could.... I don't know... Do you want to?" I asked, stumbling on my words again. "I mean, only if you want to."
She laughed again, a short, heartfelt laugh as she nodded. "I'd love to."
"Cool," I replied, grinning from ear to ear. Thinking for a second, I raised an eyebrow. "Wait, what are we doing?"
She laughed once again, taking my hand in hers as she led me out of the coffee shop.
Throughout the day, ignoring the thousands of calls I got from work, I listened to her ramble on and on about her life and when I kissed her cheek accidentally, she didn't push away but only smiled, squeezed my hand and continued on with her story. I couldn't help but think something that I reminded myself over and over again, all throughout high school.
Well, I don't know where and I don't know when but I knew that we'd be lovers again.
