I couldn't think of one that covers just a dar topic but The Sound is quite a dark read, being about a serial killer who targets nannies. Also Eleanor and Park (Not wanting to spoil anything for anyone)

The book I am currently reading which is The Fellowship of the Ring, I didn't think at first that I was going to like it and although it is slow I am enjoying it so far.

I love so many books that I read but probably one I am going nuts about right now is Black Cat (The manga) It isn't something that I thought I would like but I enjoyed it as well as the anime

For me a comfort read would either be Love Lessons or any of the Warrior Cats super editions. For a comfort read, I usually either look for a book that I can read quickly or one that has a cute theme to it.
