"She broke my heart."
"It wasn't hers to break."
I stared at her, my mouth dropping slightly. Shaking my head out of my daze I turned away.
"Don't say things like that." I told her, willing her to read between the lines so I didn't have to tell her the words I was dreading. Dreading because they would completely ruin me, would destroy me from inside out. Yet, there was a small part of me, the part I'd hidden over these last few years, that started pleading with me.
"Why not." She asked, her dark hair tumbling after her as she stood up. God, she was the death of me. But she was my life. Funny how things contradict.
And then I was angry. Not at her, but at me. I looked at her with pleading eyes. "I- I can't."
Her eyes darkened. "I'm not going to wait for you forever, you know that."
So as she got up to leave, twisting away so I couldn't see the disappointment on her face, I grabbed her arm.
"Stay, please."
