Funny how important small things seem when you're younger. A small penny on the sidewalk felt like a million dollars, a dollar or ten made me feel rich. Being allowed a sip of wine was a miracle, and a bottle of soda on days that weren't special was a treasure.

But the things that didn't feel important, were small and insignificant are so special. The days that you remember 5 years later that just give this feeling of nostalgia and home that you know you're never going to have again.

The memory of splashing in the pool, holding a wet dollar in hand and skipping to the vending machine, went footprints on the burning hot concrete. Standing in the shade next to the vending machine, trying in vain to fit that dollar in for a bar of chocolate. The success as you run back, trying not to get yelled at by a lifeguard to eat the candy before it melts in the sun. A towel wrapped around you and goggle marks on your forehead.

Some of the things we never get back.
