I am walking through the streets of Opelucid City, trying to find Iris, as she always does the most dramatic retellings of Unova's many legends.

Suddenly, night falls, and I feel a strange, powerful presence looming over Opelucid City.

The temperature immediately drops below freezing, and I look up, only to see a flying pirate ship, armed with massive cannons that seem to leak frost.

Suddenly, I am in an alleyway, and when I look down, I see my father's hands instead of my own. I feel what seems to be an arctic blast hit my body, as if Kyurem himself had blasted me with Sheer Cold. I feel acute frostbite set as ice crystals start rapidly forming in and bursting my cells, and the light slowly fades from my eyes...

I woke up screaming, still affected by that horrible recurring nightmare. I looked at the alarm clock on my nightstand. It was 8:47 AM. It's been three years since my dad died while inadvertently caught in Team Plasma's crossfire, and today was the day I'd finally begin my Pokémon Journey.

I saw that one of my PlayStation 3 controllers fell onto the floor, so I put it back on the shelf. Afterward, I changed out of my pajamas and went downstairs for breakfast. My mom made homemade Oran Berries and cream oatmeal and served it with a glass of fresh MooMoo milk. As I sat down to eat breakfast, she got my attention.

"Wyatt, I knew this day would come eventually," she said. She took a bite out of her oatmeal and continued.

"A Pokémon Trainer's journey is pretty much a rite of passage all over the world, it seems. I guess it's no different here in Janeo, huh?" She took another big bite of her oatmeal. I was already halfway done with mine; I'd always been a fast eater. She warned me many times before that it would come back to haunt me later in life, but I never managed to break that habit.

"Just remember that no matter how far you travel from home, I'll always be rooting for you," she said. She then slid ₱3,500 across the table.

"Here, Wyatt. You'll need this on your journey. Just make sure to manage your money properly, okay?" I thanked her and put the money in my wallet.

After I finished my breakfast and put my dishes in the dishwasher, my mom reminded me that I left my SilphPhone on the kitchen counter to charge overnight. I grabbed my phone and its charger, then went outside.

My best friend, Catherine Evadella, was outside waiting for me, and as soon as she noticed that I was there, she put her Devon Phone in sleep mode and put it in her pocket.

"Hey, Wyatt!" she said. "Today's the day we begin our journeys, but are you fully prepared yet? I know how forgetful you can be sometimes." I opened up my messenger bag and showed her. She seemed satisfied.

"I'm going to get some supplies real quick," she said. "After that, I'm going to go see Professor Mangabeira. See you later!" She waved at me and walked off at a brisk pace, heading toward Altissimo Town. I went back in my room one last time, and I remembered that I'd left God of War: Ascension in my PlayStation 3. Since I wouldn't be playing it for a while, I decided to eject the disc and put it back in its case.

I checked my PC and saw that I'd left a text document titled Adventure Rules open. It read as follows:

Rule No. 1: Open the menu with □

Rule No. 2: Record your progress with Save

I walked out the door and made my way to Route 1, at the east of Crescendo Town.

As I was walking down Route 1, I came across various Trainers. One, in particular, caught my eye. This little guy looked like a preschooler, but he had... a Mega Ring? I honestly didn't know what to think of that, so I walked up to him and introduced myself.

"Hey, I'm Wyatt," I said. "What's your name?"

"I'm Richard!" He said. "Let me guess: you're just starting your journey?" This little kid mas pretty observant for a Preschooler. I had a nagging feeling that something was quite different about this kid, I just couldn't quite put my finger on it.

"How could you tell?" I asked. He then donned the most confident smirk I've ever seen for someone his age.

"You're heading east on Route 1 and avoiding the tall grass like the Plague, all without a single Poké Ball clipped to your belt. If that doesn't scream 'just about to start my journey,' I don't know what does."

His answer caught me off-guard and confirmed my suspicions about Richard. He wasn't your average everyday Preschooler, that's for sure. So, I decided to ask the question that's on my mind.

"Is that Mega Ring real, or just a toy?" I asked. That's when I saw him reach for his belt and unclip an Ultra Ball. He threw it in the air, and it opened up and released red light, which materialized into an Aggron, and a powerful-looking one at that. That's when it hit me: this kid's Aggron was wearing an Aggronite. He saw my shocked expression.

"What do you think?" he asked. This wasn't just any Preschooler; this kid was a Child Prodigy, a Preschooler with the skills and team of an Ace Trainer. I've heard of the Janeo Region's Child Prodigies before, but now I'd just met one face-to-face.

"I moved here to Crescendo Town last year from Asperita City," I said. That's when Richard recalled his Aggron into his Ultra Ball.

"Oh, right, Janeo saw a large influx of Unovans after Team Plasma froze Opelucid City," he said. "That's probably why you–" He then saw the way my expression had shifted.

"You lost someone in the attack, didn't you?" he asked. "I'll... I'll just stop right there and back off."

He walked away, sent out his Aggron again, and started polishing its biosteel to a mirror shine. The Aggron seemed to like it, too. After a while, the light reflecting off of Aggron's biosteel was beginning to blind me, so I made my way down Route 1 to Altissimo Town.
