Hi! I wrote this for my English class and I really liked it so I thought why not post it here? Enjoy!

The sky stained with the colour of blood. The ground, hot as the Sahara. This supernatural being now reigned supreme over the Earth. "You don't understand, do you? You should've listened to yourself. Now, look at what has happened! Everyone you know and love will be gone." It laughs maniacally as the ground shakes under Albin's feet, almost mocking him. Albin wasn't the man he was before. He used to be brave, stern, and gentle; now he's frail, sickly, and terrified of what's to come... He didn't anticipate any of this. He didn't mean any of it to happen. His legs wanted to give out, to go home and forget about everything, but he said no. He has to try to get this entity away, at least for a little bit.

"What!? What are you talking about?" He tried to get it to talk. Surprisingly, it worked.

"I am not who you think I am. I am no alien from another planet like your little friends think. I am an entity no man knows of and no man will ever know of! I've gained more power than you will ever know... more power than... than her." It snarls when it talks about 'her' like she's some sort of revolting stain that needs removing.

"Well... well, why are you here? Why Earth of all places!? Surely there are more powerful planets in this universe..." He mumbled meekly, like a little mouse.

Insane laughter boomed causing the nearby trees to shakily bow in fear. "Why have I come to Earth? Well, it's simple! Have you not seen the damage and chaos humans have ensued on each other? I find it quite admirable... Torturing others because of something as simple as their skin colour? It's rich!" Albin knew how awful it is on Earth, but things have been getting better! At least, a little better. Not knowing what to do now, Albin stays silent. I mean, what was he supposed to do? He's powerless against this all-powerful entity.

Now, you might be wondering what's going on. Don't worry, we'll get into the backstory. It started a couple months back...

"This is it, the moment of truth," a scientist by the name of Larry whispers. It's the first trial run of a new invention he and his co-worker had developed: a teleporter. Susan, Larry's assistant, carefully places a red apple on the base of the colossal contraption and sprints back into the observatory room. Another scientist by the name of Albin is pacing back and forth in the room, ready to activate his life's work. The past trial runs weren't as successful as they'd hoped so he's extremely nervous. He was a very short and stout, sort of cuddly character, but don't let looks deceive you; he can be very stern and serious; but extremely paranoid. His shaggy brown hair was in a mess, tufts of hair sticking up everywhere making him look like a mad scientist. His white lab coat had been bunched up on the chair that he was previously situated on.

"Is everything ready?" Albin inquires, fiddling with the key that hung loosely from his wide neck from a thin chain.

"Yes, doctor. We're ready." Larry states. "Trial 38 of 100, we are about to activate the teleporter." He talks into a microphone that's attached to a recorder. Hesitantly, Albin lifts the plastic casing that protects the activation slot. Sweating profusely, he looks over at Larry who nods his head then looks back at the slot. He lifts the chain from his neck and grips the key. Palms sweaty from nerves, he slowly inserts the key. "Breathe, Albin." Larry reminds him.

"Yup..." Albin mumbles. With a deep inhale and short exhale, he twists the key. All of a sudden, the contraption starts vibrating.

"The machine has been activated; this trial run seems promising," Larry mumbles into the mic once more. The top of the teleporter has started glowing and a magnificent thin beam of light has shot down to where the apple sat. Then, as quickly as it came, the beam disappears. Larry sighs and leans into the microphone once more, "Trail 38 of 100 has failed... The tele-" He was interrupted by a loud boom coming from the machine. The beam of light appears again but this time, it's much bigger; and just like that, the apple disappears. "I stand corrected. Trail 38 of 100 is a success!" Larry cheers and punches Albin's shoulder. Albin chuckles a bit, glad the teleporter worked. His life's work, a success! He has to tell Robert! He'll be so proud.
