SEPTEMBER 2ND, 2020

LAIKEN SCANNED HER CHAT, answering questions in the bare minimum and thanking people for donations. A heavy yawn escaped her lips as she cracked open the third monster of her stream; it had only been 2 hours. Usually, her streams lasted four to five. As she sipped the energy drink, she spotted something in her chat. “PickleTavern, first off, you’re name is fuckin’ awesome, and second, I plan on being here for a good time, not a long time,” she grinned, swallowing down another gulp. “Monsters give me life, and eventually, they shall bring me death. Finally!”

An alarm went off on her phone, and she picked it up. Her chat spammed her, wondering what that was. “It was just my alarm to remind me to wake up my roommate,” she lied. Her voice was unwavering as she unmuted her mic to her friends. “I’ll be right back guys.”

A string of okays sounded out over her speakers as she removed her headphones and slid out of her chair. It didn’t take her long to exit her recording room and step into the kitchen, where her roommate stood with a glass of water and her medication. She rolled her eyes, taking her meds from his hand and guzzling it down. “I’m a grown woman, Maddox,” she sighed as she nursed her water.

“True, but as your best friend, I need to make sure you take them before I head to class,” he smirked as he spun around and snatched a pop tart from the box on the counter. “And now, you need to eat that, or else I will shove it down your throat.”

Laiken rolled her eyes again, jerking the chocolate pop tart from his hands before spinning around and walking toward her recording room. “You better text me when you get to school or I’ll file a missing persons,” she scolded as she opened the door and sank back in her chair. As she placed her headset back on, she whirled around. “I’m back bitches,” Laiken spoke out singsong like. She could see that the game had started, but, of course, there was a little blue ghost hovering over her body. “And - of course, I’m dead.”

She turned her gaze over to her second monitor where she had her chat. “Jack killed me? That little bitch.” Before she could do any tasks, the red words of DEFEAT came across her screen. Laiken didn’t hesitate to call Jack out. “Sean!”

“What?!’ he shouted back as he erupted in laughter.

“You dumb bitch! How dare you kill me?” She cried out as soon as they jumped into the ship with the discord erupting with voices. “Whatever happened to our buddy system?”

Jack snorted. “I never agreed to that!”

“Liar!” Laiken responded, running over to customization and added horns onto her dark blue character. She no longer wanted to match with Sean and flowers. “We are no longer best friends.”

“Oh, god! No! Forgive me!” Jack pleaded, causing the discord chat to erupt in laughter.

“No! Screw you!”

“What’s happening?” An ungodly deep voice spoke, causing Laiken to freeze. She stared at her screen blankly.

Sykkuno let out a tender laugh. “Graves, you good?” Laiken cleared her throat, reaching up and tightening her ponytail. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see her chat freaking out over her silence. “Oh my god, she dead.” Sykkuno always made her laugh - and calmed her for some reason. They started playing together about 6 months ago, but it felt like longer.

“Graves?” Multiple voices sounded out before she cleared her throat again, taking a few gulps of her monster.

“Holy shit! Did you just invite Batman to the server?” She finally blurted out after her silence, causing some laughs to come out from the crew. Laiken could hear some of them banging on their desks.
