Serenity's Point Of View
__

December has always been my favourite month. The chill of the snow, the crisp scent of burning wood in the fireplace at my parents home, not to mention the Christmas celebrations in Seattle- where I live. I love the festivity of the city, especially the Christmas parade and Christmas Carolers that go to every doorstep to greet people with merry song. I could never sing to so strangers with such confidence in the freezing of the night, but I suppose everyone is different.

Tonight is the Christmas parade, it's Christmas Eve in fact. My friend Jess and I are going together, like usual. We've been every year together but tonight is the first time we're going both single. Yes- all the last times were cliché dates with our boyfriends. But this time around, we're dependent on eachothers company, not some guy who says he loves you but really doesn't. Personally, I don't think saying 'I love you' should ever be said if it isn't true, so I never did.

Obviously I never told anyone I loved the because I never loved. I liked people a lot, but I never felt an undying fire in my stomach that told me I had deeper feelings for them. Besides, back then I was more naive and didn't know what was what love was. Being eighteen and slightly more mature now I know what was right and was was wrong. Saying no to telling someone I love them without being forced was a huge thumbs up in my perspective. I'm happy I made those types of choices.

"Okay so what should I wear, the beanie or the Santa hat?" Jess holds up both options in both of her hands as I debate which would be suitable. I chuckle at option two, the Santa hat, and smile in amusement before standing up off of my bed.

"In all honesty, unless you want to look like an idiot I'd say the beanie", I answer and walk to my dresser to get an extra sweater in case the temperature drops. "Don't you agree?"

"Well unlike you Serenity, I love to dress up for the occasion. You could also look like an idiot and wear a Santa hat too" She says and I look up at her, pulling a face that makes her grin. "And all along I thought you were the type that loved the whole idea of Christmas.. What a disappointment" She teases.

"Excuse me but I am the literal queen of festivities. Remember last years Easter? Or... Halloween! I dressed up as Humpty Dumpty and I looked like an idiot but I didn't care one bit because I was just so in the spirit that no one was going to put me down. So don't get too lippy with me Jess." I turn to face her completely with the jumper in my grasp and a hand on my hip. I've not known myself as a very sassy person, but when it comes to situations like proving a point my inner diva is released.

"If you say you are 'The literal queen of festivities' then why are you refusing to wear the Santa hat?" She argues. I have a feeling I am not going to win this argument, and I have a feeling that Jess is going to force the red and white disgrace on my head of brown hair.

"Well fine!" I give in and poke my tongue out, then replacing it with a smile. "The things I do to prove a point" I shake my head and look at the digital clock on my bed-side table, seeing the time 6:32 in a bright green colour. The parade starts at seven and it takes about twenty minutes to walk from our apartment to where the parade is supposed to be, so I guess we should start getting a move on.

After bickering a little more with Jess, we decide to leave and lose ourselves in a conversation about our favourite pizza toppings. Like I guessed it is a lot cooler, so I'm glad I decided to get and extra layer to put on top. The thing is I am still cold, and it is bound to be cooler by the time the parade is over.
