AN UNEXPECTED COFFEE DATE

CHAPTER 1

NAINA

When I got up in the morning today. I was so relieved as I was having an off after such a hectic week. But my happiness didn't last long. I saw my mobile which had ten missed calls from my mother & seven from my father. Was I sleeping so deeply that I didn't hear my mobile ring. Then I cursed myself a little, when I saw that my stupid mobile was on silent mode. I instantly called up my mother. She picked up the call at the first ring itself. She immediately started shouting at me, "Kab se phone kar rahe hum. Kya kar rahi thi. So rahi thi na. Jab se Mumbai gayi hai job ke liye, humare liye toh time hi nahi milta tujhe. Bola tha na, roz raat ko call kar liya kar. Par nahi, madam wahan jaakar itna busy ho gayi hai, ki poora poora hafta call nahi karti. Call karo toh phone nahi uthati." She was continuously ranting in my ears. I had to keep the mobile away for a while till she finished her loud talks. Finally, I put the call on speaker, & laid back on my bed hearing her rants.

Finally giving up, I said, "Mummy, bas na ab kitna daantogi. Maine kaha tha na pehle hi ki main yeh week bohot busy rahungi. Ghar aane mein bhi late ho jaata tha. Fir aap logon ko jaldi sone ki aadat hai, toh main disturb nahi karna chahti thi itni raat ko. Fir subah bhi jaldi jana hota tha office. Ab shant ho jao aur batao kya important baat hai itni ki aapne aur papa ne itne calls kiye hai subah se."

My mother spoke a little dejectedly, "Pata hai tu kitna busy hoti hai. Ab fresh ho jaa aur baad me video call karna. Hume bohot important baat karni hai tujhse." I knew it was very much important or else she won't have asked me to make a video call. So, we bid our goodbyes & I hurried to the bathroom to freshen up.

I had my breakfast & finally taking a deep breath, I made a video call to my father. My father picked up the call after a few rings. As the call connected, I saw my parents sitting together on our world famous sofa & having their tea. So I squealed a little in excitement, "Heyy... papa.. mummy... kaise ho app log. Kitna acha laga aap dono ko dekhkar itne dino baad. Kaise ho papa?" Before I could say more, my mother interrupted, "Beta hum thik hai. Par tujhe kya ho gaya hai. Itni patli kaise ho gayi hai tu. Thik se khaati nahi kya? Pata hai mujhe. Dekha Rakeshji main kehti thi na ki yeh ladki wahan jaane ke baad apna dhyan nahi rakhegi thik se. Dekho kaisi dikh rahi hai abhi."

"Mummy please main jaisi thi waisi hi hu. Kahin patli nahi hui main. Papa aap kuch bolo na?", I said whining. Papa laughed at our antics & finally took over saying, "Rama, Naina, ab bas karo tum dono. Rama hume kuch important batana hai Naina ko. Toh ab tum chup ho jao thodi der. Mujhe baat karne do Naina se."

That instantly got my attention. By the looks of my parents, I was sure something major was going to happen in my life. My heart was giving me a bad feeling about this. Still I maintained my calm & asked, "Kya important baat hai papa. Main sunn rahi hun." I was having a weird feeling about what was going to happen next until my father spoke, "Naina beta, humne aaj tak tumhari saari baatein maani hai, tumhari saari zidd poori ki hai. Tumhe freedom chahiye tha job karne ke liye Mumbai mein, woh bhi humne accept kiya. Ab main tumse jo bhi poochunga uska jawab soch samaj kar dena, aur haan jawab ekdum saccha hona chahiye. Mujhe pata hai, tum humse jhooth nahi bolti, fir bhi sach bolna poore dil se. Thik hai Naina."
