Ruby walked through the streets of Atlas, Pikachu perched on her shoulder.
"Second chances are special things, Rosie," he said. He didn't know why he'd stopped calling her "kid" and started calling her "Rosie", but something about it felt right. "There's a lot we can make better if we crack this case. One question though, where are we going?"
"I don't know," Ruby said. "I'm just going. You gotta tell me where. You're the detective."
"Okay," Pikachu said. "If Roger Clifford is the key to all of this..."
"Then," Ruby continued, "we need someone who has access to him."
"But who would that be?" Pikachu asked.
Ruby stopped walking. "Weiss."
"Weiss?" Pikachu asked. "Again? How would she have access to Clifford?"
"Her dad had something to do with R, remember?" Ruby said. "She can help! Besides, it might take a little more than just the two of us to get to the bottom of this. We could use a little help."
Ruby contacted her friends, and told them they needed to meet up again. After explaining why, they agreed to meet her in a cafe. Ruby had chosen to meet there so she could get Pikachu some (F/D).
Ruby sat in the cafe, Pikachu sitting next to her. She waited for her teammates, as Pikachu drank some more (F/D).
She heard the door open, and saw Weiss, Blake, and Yang walking in. She smiled.
"There they are," she said.
"Why is the blonde one wearing sunglasses?" Pikachu asked. "Can she see us? I... I don't think she can see us."
They walked up to Ruby.
"So, you said the blonde one gets more powerful when she's mad, right?" Pikachu said.
"Yes," Ruby answered. She stood up and smiled at her teammates. "Hi, guys!"
"Hey, sis!" Yang said.
"Sit down," Ruby said, sitting next to Pikachu.
The others sat down around her.
"Well?" Ruby said.
Weiss pulled out a folder and placed it on the table in front of Ruby. "Look at this."
Ruby picked up the file, and looked through it.
"I got access to Roger's computer," Weiss explained.
"Oh wow," Ruby said. "How'd you do that?"
"Made my way into his office and spilled a cappuccino on his lap," Weiss answered.
"Eh, that sounds like a waste of coffee," Pikachu said.
"So I searched through all his records," Weiss continued. "I targeted the property rights in the region and I cross-checked that with city records for any Clifford-financed businesses until I found it." She pulled a photo out of the folder, and slid it in front of Ruby. It was a photo of the base Mewtwo was supposedly held in. "PCL, a Grimm genetic research facility. But that's not all."
"She's good," Pikachu whispered to Ruby.
"Last week," Weiss continued, "PCL had an 'accident' and had to shut down their entire facility. That's the same night (Y/N) went missing. No one knows what happened. Total media blackout. What does it all mean? I don't know. This is very exciting. Are you excited?"
"Yeah," Ruby said, nodding.
"I think she just peed a little," Pikachu said.
Ruby ignored him, glad no one could understand him. "So..."
"Oh, nope!" Pikachu said. "That's me. That was me."
Ruby tried to hold in her laugh, not wanting her friends to judge her for her strange ability to understand Pikachu. "So, there's a cover-up?" she said.
Weiss nodded.
"But what are they covering up?" Ruby asked.
Yang lifted some keys. "What do you say we go find out?" she said.
