I stand in front of Nick waiting for him to give me an answer. Looking at him, the man that I want to be with forever, is hiding something, and it must be something big for James to come out of prison, and come to the apartment first, asking about Kristen.

I have asked him before in the past what happened and I always got the same answer it ended badly because of his drinking and drug use, and I never thought twice about it either, that would be a good reason to break up with someone.

Having James mention it to now has me thinking, yes James would say anything at the moment to get me back but I have a feeling that this is not a trick he is playing.

“Nick,” I shout his name again, “what is James talking about?” I ask.

Nick walk off into the kitchen still not saying anything to me, pulling out a beer from the fridge he looks up at me. “Kim, I love you thats all you have to know,” he says.

“Well, there seems to be something you are hiding, so you now have two choice,” I start talking as I walk to the end of the counter, “you tell me, or James will.”  I finish and I can see Nick’s jaw tighten.

“No, I don’t want him talking to you,” he shouts, almost in angry.

“Then tell me, Nick.” Even my voice gets louder, at Nick trying to go around the question.

Taking his hand through his hair, he looks at the counter, “You have to know that I have changed so much since then,” he looks over at me, “promise me that you believe I have changed since then.” He says.

“I don't have to promise anything, until you start talking.” I say.

“I started dating Kristen, and we were together about six months,” he take in a deep breath, “then my grandfather died, and I started drinking heavily, and started taking drugs, I mean I was high all the time,” he stops talking and looks over at me, and I don't say anything to him, as I don't want to stop.

“One day…” Nick starts to talk, but stops at a knock on the door.

NO! I shout in my head, rubbing my head with my hand, Nick goes over to answer the door.

“Eric, this has to wait.” He says.

“No, it cannot wait,” he says as his voice goes into panic. “You’re getting sued by your mother,” he says.

“What?” Nick says.

“She wants you out of the business and Patrick in.” he starts talking walking into the apartment.

I finally thought that we got rid of Nick’s mother trying to ruin us but no she has to show her ugly face again. The voice in my head starts screaming louder.

“Can we talk about this tomorrow morning, Eric? I have…” Nick looks over at me.
