I'm walking down the street wordering, Why in the world did Tommy ask me to come and meet him in a deserted park on a school night? Tommy Baker was my best friend, and he knew I hated to go anywhere after six on Monday through Thursday. I walked down the alley way a little more and found myself
looking at the back of a dark haired boy only a few inches taller than me. "Tommy!" I shouted out and walked over. I waved so he would notice me and he turned around. He put his phone in his pocket. I couldn't tell what expression he was holding, his face was covered in the shadows of the lights. I stepped forward slightly and noticed his darker tanned skin and green eyes. "Sorry, wrong person. I, uh thought you were someone else." He smiled in that way only intoxicated people can. "It's okay. Hey, what's your name?" His words slightly slurred when he talked. "Nothing you need to know." and suddenly I was angry, this guy was drunk and probably gonna kill himself tonight and yet he had a stupid smile on his face. He was hot though, unlike most guys, his dark hair complemented his skin and his eyes pierced through me like two knives. I started to walk away and he followed me. I clenched my hands into fists and turned around. "What are you doing?" I asked in the calmest voice I could muster. "I was just wondering if I knew you." I shook my head. "I'm pretty sure I would remember meeting you." I said then blushed realizing how I had just sounded. He smiled and almost immediately it was gone. "Now, how about you get away from me, you creep. I don't believe in getting drunk," I could see he didn't take that well. I turned one more time and again he started to follow me, this time thought he put a hand on my shoulder and it was scorching hot. "OW!" I yelled, but he didn't take it away, the longer it was there the warmer it got. "I mean it. Get your hand off me!" He let go quickly but it was too late. A piece of my favorite shirt was still in his grasp and it was glowing. "What the hell! That was my favorite shirt! My parents are going to kill me?" He frowned "What's wrong, princess?" he asked, in a tone implying he didn't care one way or another. I put my fists up and held his gaze for a moment, all the anger I had been trying to contain wasn't going to be held much longer. "What your parents never told you not to play with matches?" I slowly lowered my hands and took a deep breath. I turned around and started to walk away, with a quick peak over my shoulder i could see he wasn't following me. I quickly wipped out my cellphone. Tommy had texted me a bunch of times, all saying sorry he couldn't make the meeting we had planned. I replied,'It's okay, school night remember' I put it away and kept walking. Suddenly I felt a sharp pain in the middle of my back and fell to my knees. My mouth fell open and my phone to the ground. The now cracked lense said my mom was ringing, probably trying to find out where I am. I tried to reach for my phone but I couldn't. I couldn't even move I was paralized. Then my body was consumed with flames.
I woke to the startling sound of my alarm ringing. I had had the same dream every night since the accident, almost a year ago. Some idiot drunk with matches in a dark ally. Once Tommy found out, he went into shock for about a month. My parents said the dream was just a phase and I was going to get over it. But, so far, it hadn't. I got up and looked in the mirror, I had circles forming under my eyes and my hair, as usual, was a total mess. I slipped on my school uniform, a whit blouse with a cacky skirt and light blue blazor and knee socks. I would trade it for jeans and a t-shirt any day. School was the same as always, Tommy was at his locker, as usual, trying to fend for himself with the seniors ready to pluck him. I walked over, books in hand and yelled "Alright! Whick of you wants a face full of fist first? Geez, trying saying that five times fast." It put a smile on his face, but the guys around him looked me down and one came toward me. He was tall with dark hair in a buzz cut. "Yeah, 'cause I'm freaking out over a little girl." He was partly true I was small, but I was powerful and quick. Tommy's eyes widened as he looked where this was going. "Could you hold my books? Thank you!" I said and handed him the books. Buzz cut walked over and pounded his fist against a locker dramatically. "Because beating a locker is going to scare me away." Some of the others smirked until Buzz cut gave them the look and they shut up pretty quick. "Wow, big possy you got here." He nodded and the fight started. He threw a punch, I ducked and grabbed his hand with my own and saw it turn a lighter shade till it was practically glowing blue. He groaned at the heat I was pushing on his hand, and I let go. He fell backwards clutching his hand. I looked at my own, it looked like I had been holding a pen that exploded blue ink everywhere except it was just brighter than the uniform and glowing from within. "Okay, Break it up!" I heard an authoritized voice yell from behind the crowd. A short, stocky man walked through to the middle of the group so he could see everyone. "Tommy I'm surprised to see you here." The principal exclaimed, the shock registering on his face. He looked around the group. "Oh, I see." He said, his eyes landing on me. What? I asked with my eyes. "Mr. Baker, give Ms. Hurst her books and leave. You really don't need this kind trouble." His eyes never left mine. He grabbed my hand and Buzz cuts and walked us straight to the principals office. "The rest of you, get to class!" He yelled directly in my ear. I winced and looked over at the other student. He had a look on his face that said We're in for it now. I couldn't help but smirk. "Do you find something funny? Ms. Hurst?" I nodded and pointed at Buzz cuts expression which was now filled with anger and humiliation. Principal Spring rolled his eyes and kept walking. "Mr. Turner, you will have detention after school for the next month." I smiled. "You too, Ms. Hurst. You will also show the new student around the school he's a straight A's student from Dallas. You will be nice." As if he needed to remind me, oh yeah, he did. The principal sat me down in his office and locked the door. "Hey!" I yelled aftered him. "Where are you going?" I yelled buf i knew it was no use, the glass was pretty solid. "Hey." I heard someone behind me. I whipped around to find the boy from the nightmare standing infront of me. "It's nice to see you sober." I said to him by way of greating. He smirked and rolled his eyes. "Oh right we met. So, hows life." I lookex at him like Are you kidding me? He smiled again, this time i noticed what he was wearing. A Weston Hyde school uniform. And man did he look good in it. I pulled my eyes away and could see him doing the same. "What made you choose Lamesville high?" I asked him tyring to strike a conversation up, since we were stuck in the principals office. "Parents." He replied with no emotion in his voice at all. He looked at my hands and immediately noticed the blue light still streaming through my veins. I quickly put it behind my back. "What?" I asked and his eyes flew to mine. I looked around. Anywhere but his eyes, but I couldn't help looking at him. "What did you do?" He asked. "What makes you think I did something, I could be here to get an award."
"I don't think someone is getting an award would be dragged in by their ear." I gave him a sarcastic smile.
