It happened again. I got lost in my drawings, mother got angry, and strangely, dinner was ready. On the Brightside, I wasn’t sleeping this time. Apparently, mother had been calling me for quite a while now and somehow, I didn’t hear. Oh well…
Since I was late and everyone was already on the dining table I just brushed my hair and went downstairs to join the rest of the awaiting family.
I got downstairs and took my usual seat beside my father. Jared had called and said he’d miss dinner — something about a girl blah…blah…blah. Anyways it was just me, Rave, my mother, and father. Perfect.
This wasn’t that bad, it just meant I had to talk a lot. My father likes conversations, not as much as my mom, but he likes it all the same. And since Jared wasn’t home, all the attention was pulled to me. Hell.
“So Lykrel’s back from school,” my mother said informing my dad.
“Really? Where is he?” he asked.
“Not Here”, I grumbled.
I heard Rave give a weird chuckling sound. I pouted straight at him as he was sitting where Jared was supposed to be, right in front of me.
“Now you know I just might take offence to that”, He had said this to me and my parents were cleverly avoiding this as experience has taught them not to meddle in our petty sibling squabbles.
“What?” I shot back at him under my breath
“Well, I just might be feeling bad that you don’t like me even quarter as much as you do Lykrel. I mean it’s quite painful, I’m supposed to be your most favourite person in the entire universe”, he replied
“Ever heard absence makes the heart grow fonder”, I said naughtily
“What’s that supposed to mean?” he asked turning red
“Well it means you’re always here”, I stated
“That’s just irrelevant -”, I opened my mouth to interrupt him, but he raised a finger up at me shushing me, and then he just continued, “– because even before Lykrel went to college you were still all over him”
“That’s not true”, I protested.
“It is”, he shot back.
“Well, there’s no point even arguing with you, from the looks of it you’re not going to change your concept no matter what I say so… I say whatever lets you sleep at night”, I said in a matter of fact manner.
Rave looked like he was going to explode for a second, and then he calmed down and said the one single thing that would make tonight terrible.
“Well if you’re looking for a deal before you accept I’m right, you’re not getting any, I’m not like your friend you know”, he said
“What friend?” my father chipped in.
“Well -” I had started until Rave interrupted me, “Apparently, it’s no one, just some guy who I personally consider as one of the most intelligent persons on this planet”
“Really? That’s interesting. Isn’t that, however, a huge title to bestow on someone who apparently is no one?” father asked.
“He did the unthinkable, the unbelievable, and the greatest thing I have personally seen”, he replied
“Hey?!” mother chipped in pouting a bit, “I did give birth to you and that’s pretty amazing you know”
“Well I didn’t see that now so how would I know”, he stated
“Hmm, he seems like a really interesting character. What’s his name?” father asked
“Truthfully, I really do not know. What’s his name D-mi-tri?”  He asked
I gave him one of the meanest glare I could manage. He only ever calls me Dmitri when he wants to be an ass and this is like an un-said apology. I hated it. I was about ignoring this question when my father repeated it. I just wished the earth would open up and swallow me.
“Erm… his name’s Axel”, I answered
“Axel. That’s an interesting name. So Raven, what gives him that title exactly?” father asked
“Oh! He found the most creative way to get your daughter here to make an actual friend,” Rave said but judging from the confused look on my father’s face, he added, “In plain terms, she made a deal”
“A deal to be friends? That is quite impressive”, father stated
“Not as impressive as giving birth but since no one’s comparing…” my mother said pouting
“Hm-hmm, okay Ambrosia so tell me about this Axel of a guy”, father said
“Well, father –” I started not taking my glare away from that traitor, “– I couldn’t possibly tell you about someone I have absolutely no clue about, and I didn’t make a deal to be friends with someone, that’d just be downright weird. I made a deal not to ignore him, note the difference -” I heard Rave make a snide comment like ‘see nothing’. “— and RAVE there’s nothing impressive about making a deal with someone”.
“There is when the someone is you”, Rave responded.
“Wait! So you’re not dating?” My mother asked looking worried.
My father choked, “No, no, she’s too young to date”.
“Mother!!!” I groaned.
“See! I wasn’t the only one who thought you were dating”, Rave added.
I groaned internally. My family is crazy. “I AM going to bed. Thank you for the meal, Mother!!!” I stood up from my chair and kissed my father goodnight before going back to my room.
I got to my room so annoyed at my family. I just got on my bed and fell asleep. Peace…
