Native Americans, not just the Navajos, were all forced onto reservations long ago. Because Native Americans were seen as threats, they were put on reservations. Native Americans have always fought to defend themselves, anyone who had threatened them or their homeland, culture or family was their enemy. Aside from that however, they were caring people, always trying to help out anyone in need of it during any time of difficulty, including even laying down their lives for their people. As a result of fighting the United States, many of the Native Americans were relocated, forced off their lands and moved to reservations (“Protecting”). Somoset–who was a tribe leader and was the first to greet the white settlers when they arrived – knew that no one owned land and that it did not belong to anyone, so back in 1625 some colonists asked for an additional 12,000 acres of land, he decided to humor them and he signed a paper that became the “first deed of Indian Land to English Colonists” (Brown). This very first deed that Somoset signed created a small ripple effect that would cause wars to happen for land between the Native Peoples and the white settlers.
