BAM!

the sound of the door slammed shut echoed throughout the silent house, heavy stomps followed the sound.

"hey kid, how'd it go today?" the tired hero asked.

"don't wanna talk about it" noriko mumbled as she stomped up the stairs towards her room.

aizawa let out a low sigh, slight worry evident on his face.

he decided to let the teen calm down before going back up to check on her.

a soft knock broke the silence in the whitette's room.

"can i come in?"

"mhm"

as he opened the door, his heart ached. he took in the state his daug-

no,  the kid he's taken under legal guardianship, bundled up in the corner of her bed. her face wet from tears, her body hunched and wrapped in a blanket.

he wanted to give her space, so he took a seat the end of the bed.

"you want to talk about it now?"

silence.

after a few seconds she shakily spoke up, "i failed."

the hero hadn't heard her voice this timid, almost like a whisper, in so long.

he knew she was still struggling with her past trauma and self confidence, but it's been a while since she's actually talked to him about it.

"failed at what?" his voice matched hers, quiet, barely above a whisper to prevent a freak out or pressure her into sharing.

he hesitated as he moved closer to noriko, sitting crisscross while facing her. their knees barely touching.

"i didn't get to do shit today! i-i didn't get to do anything 'zawa.." a lump had formed in her throat, fresh tears threatening to spill once again.

"i don't- UGH- I DON'T THINK I CAN..

i-i don't think i can become a hero.." and then the teen finally broke down.

aizawa brought the girl into a hug. since agreeing to have the girl under his care, he has realized that she found comfort in physical affection. noriko had once told him about the ways her parents would shower her in affection. Whenever she was sad or nervous, he noticed that she clings to the nearest person, if she trusts them enough. He saw how tight she held iida's hand the time she was waiting for the quirk assessment results.

he wanted her to know that he was there for her, she wasn't alone.

he moved her to a position where her back was now laying on him. she was sitting in between his legs, it made him picture a small broken and vulnerable child. the hero wrapped his arms around the teen, the latter clinging her arms to his.  she was hurting and he wanted to help her.

aizawa wasn't a big fan of showing affection, but he's grown to not hate it if it was for noriko. he would do anything he could for her if it meant that she felt safe and happy.

"why do you think that?" he had to be patient with her. noriko has a habit of leaving important information out, the parts that truly hurt her. she doesn't like being too vulnerable, she covers her emotions with a stoic face and it only falls when she can't hold it in anymore.

"that stupid ice boy, it was finally my time to prove how much of an amazing hero i am but he just-just AHH HE JUST HAD TO RUIN IT!"

"..he didn't let me or shojji do anything, all he said was that he had it handled and did the combat training all by himself!
