Jasper didn't waste any time. The minute they entered the garage, he began barking orders, his military training on full display. "I'll take Bella south. The rest of you split up. Esme, Rosalie, Alice, put these on," he said, handing each of them a jacket or sweatshirt of Bella's. The scent will confuse him. Lead him away from Bella and into the trap Emmett and I planned."
Esme nodded and pulled on the jacket, but Rosalie glared at him. "Why should I? What is she to me?"
Before Bella could stop him, Jasper closed the space between him and his sister, thrusting the jacket against her chest. "Because you owe me, an' you know it," he hissed, staring her down. "So put on the fucking jacket. I don't have time for your bullshit."
Everyone could feel the aggravation radiating off him. Rosalie most of all. He took another step closer to her, but she didn't back down and she didn't break eye contact as she ripped the hooded jacket from his grip and stalked toward Emmett's jeep.
Emmett clapped Jasper on the shoulder and flashed a grin at Bella. "Don't worry big bro. She'll come around. After all, Bella's with you so she's family now." To prove his point, he reached out and ruffled Bella's hair. She felt some of the tension ease as she laughed lightly and batted him away. Jasper took a breath as the weight of both their heavy emotions lightened for the moment.
That is, until his pixie like best friend tossed Bella's sweatshirt back at him. He looked at her with confusion written all over his face. Rosalie he'd been expecting, but Alice?
"I don't need it because I'm coming with you." She put up a hand before he could protest. "I don't care if it wasn't a part of your plan, Major," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. Bella sensed Alice was the only one who could get away with that. "You need me," Alice continued, poking Jasper in the chest. "You have some cover for now because James thinks Bella is with Emmett by the way he stood in front of her on the field, but it won't take him long to realize his mistake. You need me to see his decisions."
He didn't want to admit it, but she was right. Jasper looked over her head at Edward who nodded. He knew it too.
"Fine, get in the car. We need to get goin'."
Bella climbed into the passenger seat while Alice said goodbye to Edward. She raked her fingers through her hair as she watched everyone get into their vehicles. Jasper reached over and took her hand. "If anything happens, I swear to God..."
"Nothing's going to happen," he said, placing one hand on the side of her face and gently turning her toward him. "We've got a plan and the numbers on our side."
She nodded, but didn't look convinced.
"Hey," he continued, stroking her cheek, "you are my life. I'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe."
A small smile pulled at her lips. "I know."
He kissed her quickly, then turned to look in the review mirror to find Alice still kissing Edward. He groaned and laid on the horn. They jumped apart and he smirked. Bella smacked his arm. "What?" he shrugged, as Alice ran over to climb into the backseat. "He owes me too."
