A\N The video is something random I put together
You are getting ready for the championship game in the Canadian youth tournament. You are hating the talk about the NHL draft because you get the feeling that you are not going to be lucky this year. You quickly get your laces tied. It is not surprising to you that you were the first to arrive.
"Hey Iris you seem bothered," Your goaltender leans in and mutters. You can tell that he is tired of the draft talk as well.
"I'm just bothered about all of the draft talk," You respond. You get the feeling that they are going to mention your brother. Ten minutes later you are doing some stick handling warm ups with one of your team's defencemen. You are happy because it is a shoot out drill and you seem to be good at it. The defenceman tries to get the puck from between your legs but you are able to flick it away from him.
"Sorry Danny," You remark. You always feel bad for the defence.
"Don't worry about it," He responds. Another twenty minutes later you are getting ready to take the face off. The mood between you and the other centre is tense. The umpire places the puck between you. It doesn't take you long to get the puck from the other centre. You pass the puck to your left wing. After some careful back and forth the right wing is about to score but he passes the puck to you instead. You somehow manage to pull the puck over the goaltender's shin pad. You are surprised that it managed to get in the goal. Your focus soon turns to the next face off. This time you are a little too slow. At least the defence is quick about getting the puck back. Danny pulls the puck between the other centre's legs.
"Danny," You call out as you make your way around the other players. Danny quickly gets the puck to you. Eleven minutes later the period has come to an end and the game is tied. You are exhausted.
"Hey Iris you look exhausted," Your team's alternate centre remarks.
"It's been a challenging period, Marcus," You respond. You start draining the water from your water bottle. You soon get lost in your thoughts about the draft. You are hoping that you will not get drafted to your brother's team. The good thing is you have the next period off so you have time to organise all of the thoughts floating around your head.
"Let me guess you are worried that you will be drafted," Your alternate goaltender snaps you out of your thoughts.
"Nah I'm thinking about what would happen if I had to play with my brother," You respond. It will be fun if you have to. You add your cheers to the crowd as Marcus scores. Nineteen minutes later the game is tied and you are getting ready to hit the ice again. It bothers you how tough this game has been.
"Good luck," Marcus remarks as he takes your spot.
"Thank you," You respond as you take one last sip from your water bottle. You are the first to take the ice. You are soon followed by your linemates. A minute later you are ready for the face off. The umpire drops the puck. You snatch it from the other centre with an explosive movement. You take off but you are soon stopped by the other team's defence.
"Iris I'm open if you need," Your left wing calls out. You flick the puck over the defenceman's skates. Lucky it goes the direction that you wanted it to. The left wing gets it close enough to the goal. He passes it back to you.
"Thank you Leo," You respond as you line up for the goal. You start to utilise your best skill. You quickly flick the puck back and forth between your skates and your stick. You can tell that it is somewhat confusing the goaltender. You kick in front of you so you can go for the shot. You hear the familiar crash of the stick making contact with the puck. Thanks to the confusion that you created you are able to score. After seventeen minutes of boring gameplay it has finally heated up again. The other team has scored. You are hoping you can assist in getting a buzzer beater. Danny has just passed to Leo. You can tell that the rest of the team is struggling.
"Leo I'm open if you need," You offer. Thankfully Leo is able to pass to you. You use the opportunity to score. At least the puck made it into the net before the end buzzer went off. All of your teammates pile on for a hug. It has been a couple of days since your team won the championship and you are getting ready for the draft announcement.
"You know it will be fine," Your brother, Matt Duchene tries to calm you down.
"I know I will be Matty but you have already been drafted," You respond. It's odd how he is trying his best to be helpful when he doesn't have to worry about the draft. There is a kock on the door.
"Anyway that would be Leo," You head out to greet him. Ten minutes later you have made it to the event. You are suddenly hit by a wave of dread. You soon find the rest of your team. There is an intense argument over who will possibly be picked as the first choice. The argument is soon cut short by the fact that the presenter has walked on stage. It feels like the announcements go on forever.
"And now for the first pick. Joining the Chicago Blackhawks is Iris Duchene," The announcer remarks. You have an excited bounce in your step as you head to the stage. You soon receive your jersey from the coach. You pause for some press photos. It doesn't take you long to get back to your team. It has been a week since you were drafted. Everyone except for Patrick Kane is sat at a table. Jonathan Toews thought it would be a good idea for you to meet everyone over some lunch. You feel a little awkward because the others don't really know you.
"Where is Kaner?" Lexi Ovechkin asks. It's a good question.
"He told me he was running a little late," Jonathan responds. It doesn't take long for Patrick to stride in. You are suddenly awe struck at how confident he is as he approaches the table. You should be used to this since your brother's teammates have the same confidence.
"Sorry about being late," Patrick remarks as he slips into the spare spot next to you.
"Don't worry about it," Corey Crawford replies. Patrick soon turns his attention to you.
"You must be Iris," he starts the introductions. You are struck by how welcoming he is. You give him a polite nod because you don't know how to respond. Everyone soon receives their meals. You feel a little bad for not wanting to verbally answer Patrick but there is something about him that makes you shy. However you are glad that Patrick and the others are welcoming towards you.
