Sibling Rivalry (Patrick Kane X OC)

The first game

It has been two weeks since the lunch with the team and you are excited for the game against the Nashville predators. It will be interesting to actually play against your brother. You soon make your way to the change rooms. You are the fourth person to arrive. You are not surprised who beat you.

"Hello Iris," Lexi greets you as you place your stuff next to hers.

"Hey Lexi," You respond a little too enthusiastically.

"You seem happy Iris," Patrick remarks.

"Yeah I'm ready to prove to my older brother that I am slightly better at ice hockey than him," You explain. Patrick gives you an inquisitive look. It's probably because you haven't told him about the fact your brother plays for the predators.

"Her brother is Matt Duchene," Lexi answers for you. You soon get to work on getting ready for the first game of the season. It doesn't take you long to get ready. As soon as you finish pulling on your skates the rest of the team trickle into the change rooms. There is some excited chatter for the first game. Ten minutes later everyone is on the ice doing their respective warm ups. You are doing some stick handling with Patrick and Alex DeBrincat. You are worried that your brother would interrupt. Alex passes you the puck as soon as he finishes.

"Thank you," You reply. At least you can change what you are thinking about. You get to work on getting through the drill. You quickly manage to finish up.

"Iris you seem a little worried," Alex remarks as you pass the puck to Patrick.

"Yeah I'm expecting my brother to chirp me," You respond. As soon as those words leave your mouth Matt approaches you.

"Hey sis, are you ready to lose?" Matt starts to skate circles around you.

"I'm afraid the others won't let you Matty," You retort. The taunting puts a smile on your face. You can feel the odd looks from Alex and Patrick. They are clearly questioning why you are happy.

"May the best team win," Matt says as he leaves. After thirty minutes of warm ups you are ready to take the face off. You can feel Matt's death glare. At least you will be backed up by Patrick and Alex. The umpire places the puck between you and Matt. It doesn't take you long to get the puck away from Matt. You get to work on getting the puck to the other end.

"Patrick," You call out as you manage to get the puck over Matt's skates. After some back and forth between the forwards you are ready to score. It doesn't take long for the defence to catch up but you are able weave past them with the puck. You manage to get it under the goaltender's leg. The goal horn sounds. The only thing that ruins your celebration is the fact that you have to take the next face off. You quickly get the puck away from Matt. You somehow manage to get the puck to Alex. The defence soon catch up. Before they can do anything Alex gets the puck to Patrick. It doesn't take long for him to make his way to the goal.

"Iris, Alex. I'm going for the crossbar," Patrick calls out. There is a loud crash as the puck deflects off the crossbar. There is a wrestling match for it between you and one of the defence. It doesn't take long for you to get the puck to Patrick who uses the opportunity to score. Ten minutes later the period has come to an end. Your brother managed to score a goal but the Blackhawks are still a head. You quickly take the spot that Jonathan was occupying.

"Kaner I think you may have a challenger," Jonathan decides to tease Patrick.

"What do you mean?" Patrick is a little confused.

"Did you see the way that Iris handled the puck," Jonathan clarifies.

"Yes I did and you know I don't always have to be the best," Patrick retorts. You wonder how long it will take them to notice the fact that you are listening. You clear your throat to get their attention.

"I can hear everything you're saying," you politely remark. You drink

"Yeah I know and I'm glad you can hear the compliments," Jonathan responds.

"Be careful Lexi may get jealous," Patrick teases Jonathan. Jonathan has all but given up. He takes the ice.

"Sorry about that but Jonathan is right about your stick handling," Patrick is hit by a wave of embarrassment. He takes the seat next to you.

"It's ok. Having siblings is a good way to get used to the embarrassment," You reply. Your eyes are soon drawn to the game. Jonathan has come out successful but that doesn't last long. You wince at the brutality of your brother. You get ready to go just in case Jonathan can't recover. Patrick carefully grabs your wrist.

"Jon will be fine," Patrick says as you sit back down. There is something about the way that he held your wrist that will be bothering you for the rest of the game.

"Just watch," You are impressed at Jonathan's ability to shake off the hits. You feel like the umpire should have called a minor. You decide to ignore it because there is not much you can do. You find yourself cheering because Jonathan has scored a goal. Nineteen minutes later the game has finally tied. You are ready to take the face off. At least your brother is off for the last period. The face off is still tense. It doesn't take you long to wrestle the puck away from the other centre. It doesn't take long for the defence to get to work but you are able get the puck through their legs.

"Dominik," You call out. The defence has managed to catch up to you. You flick the puck to him. He soon gets it to Patrick who makes quick work of the only player that is defending him. Patrick tries to score a goal but the goaltender knocks the puck out of the air. You soon begin the wrestling match for the puck. You can feel a sharp pain as the defenceman's elbow digs into your side. Despite the pain you are able to snatch the puck away from him. You manage to score. Seventeen minutes later the game has come to an end. Thankfully your first game with the Blackhawks was a success. It doesn't take long for you to get ready to go home.

"Iris you played well," Patrick compliments you.

"Thank you but it was a team effort," You deflect the compliment. At least you have bragging rights over your brother. The thought makes you smile.
