Sweat dripped down my face as I walked up the large mossy hill. By the time I finally reached the top, I was already exhausted. But I knew it would be worth it. I stared up at the giant house and whistled at it's size. I began the walk up the front porch steps and noticed a plank missing, and nails sticking out.
Weird.
I knocked on the door, and seconds. Yes, seconds, later 2 young women came rushing out.
"Hello Mrs. Berkeley's" I addressed in the nicest voice possible. They had dark circles under their eyes, and they had fear written all over their face. Nightmares maybe?
"Hello Dear, Isabella is upstairs asleep." One said in a shaky voice. It rolled off her tongue as if she'd said it a hundred times. This girl must have alooooot of sitters.
"Help yourself to anything in the fridge-" One said.
"And Pantry!" The other finished in a hurried voice.
"And call us if anything's wrong!" They both said, in perfect sync. Creepy.
After they told me all the typical stuff, what to do if she wakes up, the emergency numbers, money if needed, etc, they said goodbye and rushed away. And I mean RUSHED.
After I closed and locked the doors, I loaded up on snacks and sat down on the couch.
A few hours passed and my eyes felt heavy. After awhile I began to drift off.
I jolted awake to loud screaming ringing through the house and everything in my body almost stopped working. But my heart was beating as fast as it has ever been. I ran upstairs and saw Isabella standing in the middle of her room, her teddy bear dangling from her hand. She stared at her wall with no emotion in her eyes. It was like looking into a black hole. I looked around and sighed, seeing nothing was wrong.
"Isabelle? What happened? Why are you screaming?" I asked walking towards her. I kneeled to her height behind her and she turned around stiffly. Vacancy in her eyes and no emotion written on her face. Just her dangling teddy bear smiling at me. A shiver crawled up my spine and I turned my focus back to her.
"Isabelle?" I questioned again. She looked down at me and her head hung low, like it was to much weight for her neck.
"It's here.." She said, her voice emotionless. She began swaying, and her teddy bear swung from side to side with her. I adjusted myself and shook the fear out of me.
"Who's here?" I asked.
She looked at me and smiled slightly.
My eyes widened as a shadow appeared behind her. The only color was it's bright red eyes.
"Your worst nightmare."
