Bridget's Point of View

The clouds☁☁ were moody and the sun was about to set when I reached the pavement in front of the house, just about opening the gate. The air endowed a nippy sensual feel when it brushed against my skin. I wondered what the time🕡⏰ was. I anticipated the rain💦 any moment from now. There was soft music🎶 coming from the house, the one that Daniella had taken a special liking to.

Daniella! I inwardly cried out. How could I forget that she was coming home today or was she already there?

Out of excitement, I sprinted into the house overlooking the way my legs wobbled and wavered due to the onerous walk I had taken with Mavis and some of my other friends in school.

My body was angrily screaming for me to take it easy, but I couldn't comply. I was eager to see Dani after a long time and I couldn't explain why. Perhaps it was because I had grown used to the company of friends and having one more person join the club was encouraging.

"Goodness!" I squeaked when I entered the house.

The green lawns had been embellished with neon lights. The dazzling lights did not upset my eyes. It artfully accentuated the design, and the environment looked spotlessly amazing. There was no sight of the heaps of fallen leaves on the ground. I beamed and took tentative steps taking in the view of the scenery as my body weighed heavily.

I felt as if I was drowning on cloud nine 🌊☁ 🌈⛅ when I looked heavenwards. The ones moody sky manifested a dotted white pattern in a  vibrant blue tint. I guess nature was seconding the idea of this welcome party for my sister. How is it possible that mum did not inform me about this surprise party? Oh! I should have guessed! She had that urgent look when she dashed off in school. She was not really going to check on patients at the hospital was she? There was only one way to find out.

I squealed when I entered the living room, which hosted a gigantic slab of cake 🎂 on a tray. There were platters which were filled with slap-up meals and and exotic drinks. Even though my mum wanted everything to come out as mediocre, the decorations her delicate hands fabricated, shamed her intentions miserably.

Innately, mum was blessed with the inherent loveliness of an aphrodisiac, even though she decided to work as a nurse instead of an interior decorator or a programme planner.

I was excessively stressing myself out when I thought that something was wrong with her way back in school.  Maybe she was tensed about planning something as huge without any help, particularly the help of her husband. This was our first ever official party without him and we were going to make the most out of it.

"Mum where is she?" I solicited impatiently with gleefulness  when I saw her arranging the cutlery on the plates.

"Finally" Mum said relieved. "You took so long to come home"

"Oh mum, I'm so sorry you had a cause to worry" I pleaded remorsefully.

"She'll be here in thirty minutes. Go freshen up" She speedily dismissing me.

"Okie-dokie" I cheerfully responded moving up the stairs. "I love everything!"

"Thanks dear" She was really in a good mood.

I quickly showered and slipped on a red and white strapless dress with a black petticoat. It was not too constricting or too loose, just right for the occasion and the cold evening weather.

"All donned up already?" Mum eyed me suspiciously when I came down the stairs.

"Yes" I replied sunnily. She was done with everything when I came down.
