I brought Luke his black coffee, as usual. I noticed his empty hands and proceeded to ask him where his book was again. He didn't reply right away, instead he focused on his hands, since he lacked a book. He nervously looked up into my eyes, as he took in a deep breath, and asked if I wanted to go to the book store with him. I got extremely excited, but tried to mask my emotions by smoothly saying yes.
During my break we went to the book store across the street. When we got inside I asked if he knew what book he wanted. He said he wasn't picking one out. He must have seen my confused look because he explained that I was picking it out for him.
We went back to the coffee shop with the he newly bought book. I went back to work and Luke sat back down at his table to be greeted with cold coffee.
