The Legend of Korra : The Searing Flames

Chapter 1: Three Years Later

After the threat of Zaheer dealt with and the anarchy returned to peace, Avatar Korra turned to spend her days in the spirit world of deep meditation. She would not journey alone for she would be accompanied by her new love Asami. It had been a long and cruel road but Korra realized that Asami had been with her through it all. Even when she was down and out, Asami had her back no matter what. Korra could remember that Asami agreed to go with her to the spirit world willingly and she couldn't ask for a better.

The spirit world, quite possibly the most beautiful place in the world. With the gates balanced and spirits living in harmony, the spirit world itself and become a beautiful serene land. Green plains as far as the eye can see and spirits feeling right at home. In the distance was a small cottage belonging to three, where an old man is making his tea. Iroh had taking Korra and Asami during their stay in the spirit and had been great company ever since.

"It's great that you decided to spend many of your days here Korra. You and Asami have certainly made things more interesting around here."

Korra was at the table sitting across from Asami. She smiled at the kind sage's words and quietly drank her tea. She and Asami living their lives together as a couple, happy and joyful. "Thank you Uncle Iroh."

"Heh heh, I'm not your Uncle Korra, but it's a nice title if I do say so myself."

"Korra, you know it today is right?" Asami asked.

"Of course I do it's your Birthday honey. How could I forget?"

Asami smiled for she had one birthday wish this year. "Korra this year I was thinking that maybe......"

"What is it Asami?"

"Do you think maybe this year.....we could.......go back to Republic City?"

At first Korra was a bit skeptical about the comment. The two were living fine together in the spirit world. But it was Asami's birthday and there was no way she could say no to that face. It would be a nice change of pace and nice to see the gang again.

"Well alright ...We better get packing"

After packing their bags, Korra and Asami waved goodbye to Iroh as they headed for the world portal. "I'm so excited Korra, I wonder what's been going on since we left?"

She was silent for a bit. Korra didn't know what to think at this point.

"Korra? What's the matter?"

"I'm a little nervous....I mean it has been three years. "

Asami smiled and held Korra's hand and brought it to her cheek. "We will be fine, I promise. It'll be just like old times. You, Me, Naga, Tenzin, Bolin and Mako."

Korra smiled at the comforting warmth of Asami's face. She leaned forward and gave her a gentle kiss on the lips. "You're always good for a smile.

"Well I try. Now come on, Republic city ain't gonna wait forever."

The two stepped through the gate into the human world and in a flash of bright light, their they were. At the air bender temple right where they left it. With a the sight of Republic right across the way, Korra took in a deep breath of fresh air. Smelled of fire and the sea. The sun's light was partially coming through the clouds and the sounds of ships docking at port could be heard. "Man it feels great to be back."

"Korra! Asami! Hey!"
They turned to see a familiar air bender and his loving wife beside. It was Tenzin and Pema, accompanied by Ikki, Jinora and Meelo close behind. "Korra! Korra!" The three children pounced on her like wolves, tackling her to the ground. Korra couldn't stop laughing.

"It's great to see you three. Staying out of trouble I hope?"

"Never."

"Good."

Asami saw Pema and Tenzin coming down and greeted them with smile.

"Asami hello. How was the Spirit World?"

"It was a wonderful time."

"What about you and Korra?"

"Wonderful." She said with a smile

"So what brings you to Republic City?

"We decided to spend our birthday her this year."

"Make yourselves at home. We got a lot to catch up on."

The two got settled in at the temple as Korra and Asami greeted familiar faces. Korra looked out the distance to Republic City smiling as it was brightly lit as usual. "I can't wait to get back."
