Midnight noise

A cool autumn breeze swayed through the trees, their silhouettes glistened by the moonlight. The clouds overhead passed over the moon making themselves visible in the white light, then disappearing into the night without a trace. We sat close to each other, gazing up at the stars. Every once in a while I would glance down at her, for a moment I could see her wide eyes struck with awe as she lost herself in the blanket of stars, the lights in the sky flickered like worn lightbulbs. Thousands of them all sending pulses letting us know they're alive. I continued staring back up, wondering about everything. What was I going to eat tomorrow, how long do floors last, can you put a star in a jar. I felt her gaze study me. I slowly brought myself down to earth and met her eyes "welcome back" she smiled. I didn't know what to say in return, something tried to pipe out as my cheeks flushed red "you were gazing too" I defended" And we're just as lost in the sky". She slid off the hood of the car "perhaps" making her way into the field looking back over her shoulder. I sat quietly and watched her, she took her shoes off and stood there a moment. Feeling the earth under her feet, the grass pushed down by the weight of her steps. She ran freely in a circle, her arms wide out like an airplane. She laughed and laughed. I watched as she danced among the breeze, I thought of what it was like to be so carefree. To dance in a field at night and not worry about stepping in glass or being grossed out by the tiny bugs that reside in the darkness, though the more I thought of it the more I found wonder within her. She spun one last time, her skirt flowing around her before slowing down in front of me. Before me she stood with her arms out reaching for mine "come on! You have to try this" pulling me off the hood. "I'm okay, really" my voice shook. She pouted before persisting  "Come on, it'll be fun". Knowing this would be a back and forth I begrudgingly took her hand. I started to take off my shoes as she chimed  "that didn't even take that much convincing". Alas I stood barefoot in the grass and earth, the ground was cold and I swear I could feel things moving. She looked at me with a gesture that spoke 'you're okay'. Taking the leap I began to walk with her, holding the hand she offered me again. We began to pick up speed before she started to skip, I couldn't keep up and was forced to follow her lead, swiftly we were both frolicking through the field. The moonlight cutting a clearing for us to see. We laughed and danced forever, I began to smile and laugh with her, she would do a crazy move and I stood there in amazing awkwardness as I didn't know what to do to compliment her, then she approached. "Hi" I said. She looked at me and stood there, slowly bringing her hand to my chest. My heart began to beat quickly. Her other hand guided mine to her hips and before I knew it I was holding her. She looked up at me and softly spoke "hey". Time was frozen but moving hastily at the same time. I looked around to see if there were any creatures around as I felt her hand and my chest creep onto my neck. She pulled me in and kissed me. Staying still I felt every sensation in me become vastly more aware. I pulled away as I tried to process everything. "I-did I move too fast?" She spoke worriedly. I looked at her with wonder "no, this" I paused "this is perfect" were the last words I mustered before I leaned in for one more kiss.
