The fireplace dimly lit the surface of my skin, drying the fast-flowing stream of tears coming down from my tired eyes. Zayn sat down next to me on the chilly wooden floor, taking my father's bloody Polaroid picture from my hands and replaced it with a glass of water.
"That's enough of looking at that photo, drink some water. It'll keep your anxiety down." He says nudging the glass in my shaky hands. I looked up and gave him a look of gratitude, I wasn't able to form words without crying.
"I know you probably won't agree with this, but I told the guys about your father. Maybe they can help keep an eye out or do some research?" Zayn added hand placed sheepishly behind his neck.
"I don't know, not to be rude but from what I saw happening with your friends, I don't know if I would trust them to help find my missing father." I replied setting my glass down.
"Trust me, They're good guys! They just come from some rough places that's all. You have to know them to actually know them." Zayn said.
"It didn't seem like it when your leader had his hand on my shoulder so right that it broke skin? Now did it." I replied grabbing for my water.
"Hey listen, if you give the guys a chance they can help you. Niall is really good with a computer, he can code and hack into anything. Liam is trustworthy and he's handy with a gun just in case. Harry has... Connections and the rest of the boys and I will be with you every step. What do you say?" Zayn pleaded.
"I don't think I really have much of a choice now do I." I smile looking down. "Thank you for this Zayn, I couldn't have asked for a better guy to help lead his friends into this investigation."
Needing some time alone, I stand up to walk over to the back windowsill and take a seat outside. The sky is lined in different shades of grey as if God himself took a paintbrush in his hands, dipped it in the color of his choice, and constructed a watercolor painting. The dark hues of greens from the surrounding trees and bushes stood out against the light hidden under the walls of clouds that filled the sky.

It was just one of those days when the seasons had started to change. When it would be chilly in the early morning but warm and comfortable in the afternoon, too cold for a t-shirt but way too hot for a sweater.
I had always admired the fall. The smells, the sounds, the holiday filled with screams , laughter, and sweets. I even liked the way everyone's mood shifted from the summer joy to the winter's gloom. The gloom never got to me really, I had always found joy in the little things that fall has brought. However, this fall would be different than the rest.
Neither one of my parents would be here to help me set up our Halloween decorations or bake holiday treats for us to enjoy. It seems with each passing year, my family's traditions start to fade faster and faster into extinction. It's not like I was ungrateful for the possible new friends I made, but they aren't mom or dad.
My deep thought process was disturbed once again by the lingering cigarette smoke in the air. It filled my lungs with the scent of someone I didn't want to see. Looking to my right, I meet those pretty green eyes that caused me so much pain, my right shoulder immediately started to throb.
"Fancy seeing you here at this time of day." Harry yells across the lot. I ignore his snide greeting.
"Ah, still mad at me for fucking with your shoulder huh? Well my apologies princess, I didn't mean it." He follows up.
"Why did you come to smoke across the lot instead of the front?" I ask with suspicion.
"Don't know, I was in the mood for a backyard smoke. Heard about your dad, it's a sad thing really. Hope I and the lads can be of assistance. " He adds
"Well, after seeing you rip a line of coke off some chav's ass through the window,
I don't think you'll be much help." I snap back.
"You're just mad it wasn't you love." He replies with a smile, throwing his cigarette to the ground and stomping it with his foot.
"Did you come here just to talk shit to my face? Or did you come to watch me fuck your friend through my window?" I reply.
"Friend? What friend of mine is over at your flat trying to shag you?" He asks moving closer to the windowsill.
" You can ask him yourself. Zayn! Come here please! " I yell out behind me. Harry's face drops to the floor as he watches his fellow gang mate appear out of the windowsill.
"You know... We talked about this sort of thing mate." Harry says with a chuckle, obviously displeased.
"I know, I know. Just let me handle this, please." Zayn begs.
"Yeah I see what's going on here, let me know when you're done fucking her so you can come home." Harry replies and walks back.
"Fuck you, you're jealous!" I snap.
Harry stops dead in his tracks and turns around running his hands over his mouth.
"Jealous, me? Yeah, maybe I am but you'll be the jealous one after you're done with him. Nobody fucks like me." Harry laughed to himself and continued walking.
"God, can you believe that fuckin loser?" Zayn yells out into the lot, hoping Harry would hear him.
I space out for a minute, hearing Zayn's continued rant continue on to a monotone discussion with himself. In that moment I kept my eyes on Harry, the way he moved, how he looked. I felt guilty knowing that I had feelings for Zayn, that I cared about Zayn but still had an urge to seek out Harry's attention.

But how could you not? Even in anger his green eyes still shone bright when they met mine, his lips smooth even while exposed to the cold air, jawline shaped strong and prominent whenever he spoke, hands shaped carefully by his creator, and I still had the slightest urge to wonder why those hands of his weren't holding mine?

"Jasey- Jasey? Are you listening?" Zayn said as his voice broke through my daydream.

"Yeah I am, sorry." I replied, snapping out of my daze.

"While you were off daydreaming, I was telling you that I'm taking those polaroids and that letter with me to the boys. Maybe one of them can decode it? It's worth a try." Zayn says, collecting the precious evidence.

"Yeah, do what you gotta do. I just want my dad back." I say lowering my head.

"I know Jace, we're gonna get him back I promise. I'm gonna head out now, give you some time to rest and relax before we start the investigation process. Hit my line if you need anything love" He says heading for the door.

"Thanks Zayn, I really do appreciate you." I say and blow him a kiss. The door shuts behind him and the room is once again cold and lonely leaving me with no choice but to take a nap and forget for awhile.
