The air was cold as Reagann walked to her closed bedroom door; she could have sworn she had left it open that morning before checking up on Spencer. She grabbed the handle and twisted it open slowly, making sure nothing was going to jump out at her. When the door had reached its limit Reagann glanced around, careful to take in every inch of her room; making sure everything was still in its usual spot.
Reagann slowly stepped into her empty room, letting out a breath of relief. She had scared herself for a moment, because in that moment she had actually compared herself to her paranoid sister, Spencer. That moment of hesitance to enter her room - her safety zone - was all that it took to realise that her sister had rubbed off on her.
Reagann sighed as she let her shoulders slump; a relief too, there was no one here at the moment to lecture her on posture.
She walked over to her bed and sat down gently still cautious of her surroundings. She couldn't understand why her mind was screaming for her to run and hide as if a monster were about to devour her. But the instincts were there and the strange feeling was eating at her, threatening to consume her. She stood from her bed quickly and began pacing the hard wooden floors; unsure of what to do. That's when she heard it, a soft whisper drifting in from somewhere in the house.
Reagann walked to her door and swiftly locked it. She could feel her heartbeat pick up, a series of rapid beats threatening to leap from her chest. Someone was here, she could feel it. It was not her imagination playing up, and she knew she wasn't hearing things; she couldn't be.
She could hear a bunch of soft and planned footsteps treading up the stairs slowly; she knew that her gut wasn't lying to her. She quickly ran to the window and looked around, maybe she could find a way out. There was a knock on her door before a series of clicking noises started. Soon the door started to slide open; creaking as a foot came into view. Reagann silently walked over to the door and positioned herself behind it as slowly the person emerged from its shadow.
Reagann shook in fear from behind the door, no one was supposed to be home. Her sisters were supposed to be out; they wouldn't be back for a few hours, yet there was someone at her door. As the person slowly came into the light; the door was pushed against her. A scream escaped through Reagann's sealed lips; she quickly covered her mouth in fear of being found.
"I know you're there." the voice was deep and echoed around her room, it terrified her as she wrapped her arms around herself without trying to move the door. The intruder walked slowly about, disrupting the dormant silence of her room, as the steps got closer her breath hitched. To close, to near; she knew she would be found out.
Reagann began shaking harder; trembling at the thought of death that she could feel in that moment.
"Come on out, no point hiding now." the intruder's footsteps were close to the door; she knew it, she could feel the thump of their shoes through the floor. Without warning the door was ripped away from her, her shield was gone and she knew that this intruder was not here for a good reason. Reagann bolted to the other side of the room, desperately trying to get away from this person as panic threatened to overtake her. She turned to face them, hoping they saw the desperation in her eyes. She gasped.
"It's you!" Reagann said, surprise evident on her face. Out of all the things she had expected, he was not one of them. The intruder walked towards her, and even though she knew who he was, the fear refused to leave her as she walked backwards trying to put distance between them.
"Yes, and now you're not going to tell anyone." he closed the space between them and pushed her backwards with a crushing force. Reagann could hear the sound of breaking glass and the rushing of air past her ears as a scream escaped her. She knew she was falling as she watched the look of disgust cross his face. That was the last thing Reagann saw before she felt the excruciating pain as the fence impaled her through her heart. She could not feel her blood dripping down the fence, nor the spike running through her, the only thing she could feel was the heart wrenching pain of betrayal; and then nothing.
