Seven:
Monday led to the usual disgusting lasagne special in the school canteen and April, Jinx and Alex complained about their usual troubles. The only difference this time around was the three friends actually had some serious issues to sift through and it wasn't exactly the typical matters.
"You've got to be kidding me. He's shacked up in the Eastern Woods?" Jinx could hardly believe her ears. "Now I've heard it all."
"Apparently so," Alex chipped in as he dug into a pile of lasagne causing April to flinch. How he could eat that crap she would never know.
"Seems like a proper weirdo if I'm being honest A," Jinx added with suspicion.
"Yeah I know, I can't get my head around it. He's been following me for the past five years under the instruction of my wonderful Father would you believe."
"Look at it this way," Alex continued to make his way through lunch, spitting as he spoke. "He didn't exactly seem like the trustworthy type April. From what you said, it sounded like your Dad didn't even know you were this Chosen One. So if that was the case, why would he get this crazy dude to look out for you?"
"For once, he has a constructive point there April," Jinx added.
"Yeah but thinking about it, Caleb didn't mention anything about the Chosen One either. All he said was Dad asked him to look out for me, he didn't show any sign of knowing. Maybe he has no idea. Maybe he just knows I'm part of The Aurora. At the end of it, Dad knew he was going to leave and that in itself would have given him time to make these kind of arrangements. He knew I'd inherited the Blood Line."
"But he also said he's three-hundred years old April," Alex's point wasn't getting through to the girl. "And you believe that do you?" It sounded like April was taking Caleb's words at face value and he wasn't having that - over his dead body. If Caleb thought he could muscle in on his mate, he was very much mistaken. He lived in the woods for God's sake and not only that, he was completely full of himself and not April's type as far as Alex was concerned. Although he admitted he had no idea what April's 'type' was. But he had to put a stop to it before it got out of hand.
"I don't know Alex alright. All I know is his house is the exact same building I dreamt about the other night. That must mean something at least," April sighed as she slurped on a carton of orange juice.
"Have you gone insane April? He had a book on Black Magic for God's sake!"
"So he's cursed right?" Jinx changed the subject knowing all too well Alex's reasons for his one sided opinion.
"That's what he said although he didn't say why or how," April stopped talking as Loretto Antonio, the De Souza twins and Violet Western made their way towards their table with flyers in their hands.
"Hello guys," Loretta greeted the three friends. She hated this part - having to approach people she had no desire to be seen with but if she wanted her Halloween party to be the talk of the town, she needed as many faces as possible. After all, how could they resist a free invitation to her house? The thought was ludicrous. Jinx Garcia though, she was a hard nut to crack. Mouthy and always quick to answer back with a snide comment. Still, Loretta hoped the invitation would blow her away. She couldn't risk a public display of disrespect and especially from this group of idiots. "Just wanted to give you lot an invitation to my Halloween party - my house, next Saturday. Everyone's going to be there so I hope you guys can make it?"
April merely smiled as she took the invitation from Loretta. It was best not to say anything. Instantaneously Loretta turned and walked away from the group before anything could be said, leaving the three friends stunned and confused.
