High above the Forsaken Valley there was a cabin. If, one was lucky enough to survive a trek through said Valley, avoiding many deadly creatures. They would happen upon the Forgotten Forest. Laid, in this forest, was a path. One leading directly towards the one story mahogany wood cabin in question.
Plain as it was, this cabin had a unique feel to it. As if it were separated from worldly ordeals. It sat alone atop a small grass hill. More of a mound. With only one room, there was only enough space for four, maybe five people.
Two elders sat, awaiting a third, at a small fire inside this cabin. They sat telling each other old stories. Comforting themselves with memories.
".....no matter how strong I was, there was no competing with Sage Feng." The first elder lamented. "Forget strength! That guy could amaze the Sage Emperor himself with just charisma alone."
"Ahhh but that is karma ehh? We are not all able to be born with such a massive destiny as his. Look. We still managed to achieve much in our era."
"Much!?!"
"Yes" The second elder stood firm. "We've seen our share of misfortune. As well as our share of fortune."
"Yeah well it was a fair share of misfortune. See where we've ended up? Divided and conquered. Waiting for the seedlings of destruction we left to germinate an endless drama. Filled.....with despair." The first elder sighed. He almost seemed to question himself as he finished.
"At least try to be optimistic. We're to check the status of the mortal realm soon. Once big brother arrives, we'll see what our.... As you say, seedlings of destruction have been up to."
Time passed. Although it may have been hard to tell. The area surrounding the Forsaken Valley was ethereal. Never was there any shade. Nor sun for that matter. Whatever provided the light of day wasn't as palpable as in the mortal realms. It seemed to emanate from the hill itself. Of course, no one ever visits to question matters like these.
Whoosh
A gust of air nearly puts the fire out, bringing it to mere embers. Then it jumps back, brighter and hotter than before. Deep within one could see runes and symbols of an ancient language. Clearly, this was no ordinary fire.
"Quite right"
The elders jump. Although expected, the last elders arrival still gave their old bones a slight chill. On edge, they took their seats.
The third elder only chuckled.
"Eheheh... Lets get started shall we?"Almost instantly the flames burst even higher than before. The runes within becoming more and more pristine. The temperature in the cabin raised until waves of heat were visible to the naked eye. And then. Space shattered and a blackhole like tear rippled into existence above the fire.
From within, one could see what appeared to be constellations. A multitude of stars seemed to fill the entire cabin. Yet, they weren't stars. And they were only in the void above the fire.
Exertion starts to show on the faces of the first elders. Sweat marked their brow and their temples started pulsating. Even the elder that just arrived felt his breathe shorten a bit.
"We won't be able to check back for another half decade. If we want to intervene, this will be our only chance. Maintain vigilance!" The third elder breathed discipline into the others. "If we could find only one who has sprouted, among the many seeds planted, then this venture will be quite worthwhile"
He grinned. As more and more of the star like specks within started to light up. Becoming bright enough to see from the Valley below.
