"What was that all about?" Toby asked.

"Not sure, maybe he was late for work or something." Darryl shrugged and walked into the flower shop.

"Oh God oh God-" Zak muttered curses under his breath as he walked up the stairs of the work building. He walked into an elevator and made it to the 7th floor. "142.. 142.. ah! Here it is." He quietly opened the door and sat down next to one of his friends, George. (Not Spifey I'm SORRY 💔)

"Why're you late?" George whispered to his clearly distressed friend.

"I fell into a bush and got distracted, now be quiet." He looked around worriedly.

"The boss isn't going to be too happy about this Zak." George shrugged.

"I know that George so could you kindly shut-"

SLAM

Zak immediately went quiet and stared doing his work. His boss entered the room. He slowly walked past all of the workers desks and commented on their performance this week. "Nick, you've been slacking a lot more lately." He glarred.

Nick sighed and shrugged "Sorry sir I'm trying."

The boss angrily slammed Nick's desk. "Try harder." He kept walking and finally made it to George and Zak. "Good job on finishing your work on time George, I'm very proud of you."

"Thank you sir." He said calmly

"Zak."

"... Yes?"

".. You've done a good job on the papers that I've given you to fill out I'm almost impressed. Keep it up."

Zak slightly smiled with relief "Th-Thank you sir."

"Everyone stay on task! And stay focused on your work. I'll be peeking into the room as always." The boss walked out the door and Zak let out the biggest sigh he's ever done. "Oh my God George." He slammed his head into the desk.

"Good job, you didn't die." George smiled.

"Oh shut up, you know how terrifying he is when he's mad." Zak mumbled from the desk.

"I suppose you have a point." George giggled a little.

"I have experience of his wrath first hand." Nick said, spinning in his chair over to the two. "But enough about the boss, have you guys got your eyes on a partner~?" He smirked.

George simply rolled his eyes and waved sapnap way. "Just go do your work you idiot."

"I know you've got your eyes on that cute cafe owner a couple buildings down Georgie~" Nick giggled like a school boy.

George scoffed, his cheeks turning a light pink. "Shut up and take your ugly laugh somewhere else."

"Wow, that really hurt my feelings George." He wiped a fake tear from his eye.

"I wouldn't blame him if he did have his eyes on that dude. He's still just as much of an inspirational goof ball as he used to be back at this job." Zak commented.

"Whatever, I don't care just get back to work before the boss comes back." George looked back down at his keyboard and began to work again.

"You're no fun George." Nick stuck his tongue out as he rolled away from them.

-Lunch break-

Zak took out a plastic lunch container and placed it on the table in front of him, he sat next to Nick and George.

"So, how're things going with your work Nick? The boss says you've been slacking more, are you stuck on something? Do you need help filling out some papers?" Zak asked, taking a bite out of his sandwich.

"Nah, I've been slacking on purpose."

"What? Why? This is the only job you have Nick, and it's barely even enough to pay rent and buy food." George said with slight surprise.

"Yeaaah but I'm just not happy with this whole business stuff, it's not my vibe y'know, I wanna see the world. I don't want to waste my time working in a crummy office job with the human equivalent to Satan." Nick shrugged.

"Well, I suppose, but you should get a stable amount of money before you "travel the world" or whatever." George said, taking a bit out of his food

"Ah, I hate it when you're right." Nick rolled his eyes and stretched "Guess that means I'll have to go back to the old grind."

There was a small silence before Nick spoke in a more happy tone. "What if we start our own business!"

Zak and George looked at him in disbelief. "What?" They said in unison. "But what would you- we even do??" Zak asked

"Yeah, you don't have any remarkable talents Nick." George said with a confused face.

"I dunno man, I'll figure it out on the way!" He smiled

"You're being an idiot, Nick. There's no way this dumb stunt would work out." George facepalms.

"Whatever, we don't need George right Zak?" Nick said, turning his attention over to Zak.

"Sorry man but,, I'm going to have to agree with George, I really don't think this would work out and I've kinda got other plans too-" he fiddled with his hands nervously.

"Whaaaat???" Nick slammed the table lightly. "You guys are so LAME ugh, but I get it I guess." He sighed.

-back to work-

Zak continued to work on the assignments that his boss had given him, people slowly started leaving the office to go home to their families, or to relax from their tireless hours of work. Zak didn't really have anyone to go home to, his parents barely kept in contact with him after he'd left for the city, he had no close friend that he'd talk to just because and he had no pets either.

"I'm.. alone." Zak said in such a hushed tone it sounded like a whisper. "I have no one to check up on me and I have no one of my own. What am I doing?" Zak walked out of the office building, putting on his scarf. "I hate my job, I barely have enough money to survive, I have no one looking out for me and.. and I really just have no purpose. I've lived here for Four years but I've still gotten no where. I'm failing myself." Zak felt small tears welling I'm his eyes as he walked, the small life crisis really ruined his whole mood.
he just felt so out of it.

"Maybe some day I'll find someone, something, anything to look out for me. Someone caring and loving who'll always support me.. yeah.." he yawned and pulled his bed sheets over his whole body.

"That's a nice thought.."
