"Darcey! Darcey, sit here!" Darcey turned around at the sound of her name and saw Hermione Granger waving at her from a compartment. "Hermione!" Darcey ran up to Hermione, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley. She would have never even thought about being friends with them a few years ago, given how she had been raised. "Mudbloods, Half-bloods, and Blood-traitors are the most vile thing you could ever associate yourself with," her father had once said. "Purebloods on the other hand..." Darcey was taught that she was elite compared to all the blood types, which she knew was certainly not true. Hermione sighed and said, "We missed you! You didn't send a letter all summer!" Darcey looked at her, confused. "I did, I sent a letter almost every week..." Her voiced trailed off, realizing what had happened. "I think my letters are being monitored by my father and Draco now." Darcey said, frowning. Harry scowled. "Your brother is such an ass, Darcey, how do you even live with him?" She chuckled. "He's an honest nightmare, but I miss him. He used to be so nice to me, and then I got placed in Gryffindor, and he just started being... cold. I think it's because of my father and he's scared of him." They sat in silence for a few moments, then Ron piped up, "He's just a mean person, Darcey. Nothing you can do about it." She sighed and muttered, "Yeah, I guess so."

They had finally reached Hogwarts. Darcey remembered her first day when she got sorted in Gryffindor. She was sobbing during the rest of the Sorting and on their way to the common rooms. Hermione was always there, and Darcey was immensely grateful for her best friend. Since Harry and Ron were friends with Hermione too, Darcey had always hung out with them. They sat down in the Great Hall for the feast. Ron stuffed himself (as usual) and they talked about how exciting the new school year might be, as nothing is exactly 'normal' at Hogwarts. Professor McGonagall came up behind them and said, "I'm sorry, but I have to take Hermione away from you for a moment." Ron, Harry, and Darcey looked at Hermione curiously as she left with Professor McGonagall. "I wonder what that was about," said Harry. "I mean, Hermione never breaks the rules!"

After the feast, Darcey bid the boys goodnight and retreated to the girls' dormitory. She sat on her four-poster bed, pondering why Hermione left the feast. At that very moment, Hermione walked into the dormitory. "Hermione! What happened, why did you have to go with McGonagall?" Hermione had a stunned look on her face, then hesitated. "I'm really not supposed to tell anyone, but I'll just tell you. You have to swear you won't talk to anyone about this, alright?" Darcey nodded slowly. Hermione sighed and pulled a small necklace out of her robe pocket. "This is a Time-Turner," she explained. "Since I've signed up for so many classes, McGonagall gave this to me so I could turn back in time to do all of them." Darcey was very confused. "It's a bit hard to explain," Hermione continued, "but I'm sure you understand. I would tell Harry and Ron, but they'd try and use it inappropriately and I'm already breaking the rules by telling you." Darcey said, "I won't tell them, don't worry." Two Gryffindor girls walked into the dorm and Hermione stuffed the Time-Turner back into her pocket.
