The time came for the choosing of the Tri-Wizard champions. Everyone was practically crowding the goblet seeing whose name would be revealed. "And now the moment you've been waiting for, the champion selection!" Professor Dumbledore exclaimed. The goblet began to glow red and the first name flew out, the headmaster caught in and read the name. "The Durmstrang champion is Viktor Krum!" the boys from Durmstrang cheered as Viktor walked up to the front of the Hall, shook Dumbledore's hand and was escorted into another room. Another name shot out and it was read, "The Beauxbatons champion is Fleur Delacour!" The girls erupted in cheers as Fleur flounced up the aisle, she shook Dumbledore's hand and walked into the same room Viktor did. Now it was time to announce the Hogwarts champion. Once again the flame grew red and the final name flew out of the cup. "The Hogwarts champion is Cedric Diggory!" we all erupted in cheers, especially me, my family, and the other Hufflepuffs. He smiled modestly and it was so adorable, and I was so proud of him that he got chosen. Like the others he shook Dumbledore's hand and walked into the room Viktor and Fleur did. I reminded myself to give him a big hug afterwards. "Excellent! We now have our three champions! In the end only one will go down in history. Only one will wield this vessel of victory, the chalice of champions, the Tri-Wizard cup!" a large silver cup appeared. "This is so exciting!" I whispered to Ginny. "Yeah, and now you can finally tell Cedric how you feel." she reminded me. "Wouldn't that distract him?" why did I suddenly grow nervous? "No, he would have another reason to win the Tournament." my sister told me. Before I could say anything, the goblets flames were glowing red once again and another name shot out! Professor Dumbledore looked bewildered, he read the name on the parchment and his face grew cold. "Harry Potter?" it was so silent that you could hear a pin drop. "Harry Potter." he said a little louder. "No," Hagrid was shaking his head and Professor McGonagall looked like she was about to cry. "Harry Potter!" the headmaster shouted. "Go," Hermione prompted Harry. He hesitantly got up from the table and walked up to the front of the room; no one was cheering. "He's a cheat!" "He's not even seventeen yet!" some students yelled.
Harry was sent to the room with the other champions and we were sent back to our dormitories. This had to be the strangest night of the school year.I woke up early the next morning to go study; I got dressed in my uniform and walked down the stairs, and to my favorite spot. I had my Charms textbook with me, it was only a few weeks into the school year and I was already having a hard time with the material. This was different from the defensive spells that came easy to me; every time I casted a charm I would always mess up. After thinking about what I could do, I decided to go ask Cedric for help because he was a prodigy at Charms. I knew he was with the other champions this morning for an interview so I decided it would be best to wait. To pass the time I took a walk along the viaduct checking out the beautiful view; Scotland was beautiful at this time of year. I watched the birds fly along the quarry and took in the smell of the ocean. It was nice to relax and take in the view. After relaxing I walked back to the courtyard and Harry getting made fun of by Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle. "My father and I have a bet you see, I don't think you're gonna last ten minutes in this Tournament." Malfoy said with a smug smile. "He disagrees, he thinks you won't last five." he taunted. "I don't care what your father thinks! He's vile and cruel and you're pathetic!" Harry yelled. He stomped away, but Malfoy attempted to cast a spell at him. I pulled out my wand to stop the oncoming spell; I didn't have to, because Professor Moody stopped the spell with his wand and turned Malfoy into a ferret! "I'll teach you to cast when someone's back is turned!" He made the ferret hover all over the place and even up Goyle's trouser leg! I ran forward to see more of the action and I found Cedric watching. He saw me and gestured for me kindly to come stand by him. "Hey." I said with a smile. "Hey there." he hugged me. His hugs always made me feel happy. "How's the show?" I asked with humor as we watched Malfoy the ferret hover around the grass. "Quite entertaining." he laughed. "He finally got what he deserves." I laughed as well. "How was your interview this morning?" I asked remembering. "It was interesting, Rita Skeeter from the Daily Prophet came to interview us and she is quite the character." he replied. "Interesting how?" I wanted to know more. "The majority of what she wanted to know was if I felt threatened that someone younger from our school was also competing. I don't feel threatened at all." he said. "That's good, I guess it seems like she wants to add drama." I said humorously flouncing my hair. Cedric chuckled, "That was a marvelous impression of her." "Thank you, I've been practicing." I replied happily. It warmed my heart that I made him laugh. Then I remembered what I wanted to talk to him about. "Hey, if you aren't too busy I need some help practicing Charms. I-I figured you would be the best person to ask for help." I said trying not to stammer. He smiled kindly, "I would love to help you. Would you want to meet in the library?" "Yes, I'm free after Potions. I'll meet you up in the library." I said relieved. "It's a date." Cedric said smiling at me. He said it's a date! Just then Professor McGonagall came rushing out onto the field horrified at the sight of the floating ferret. "Professor Moody, what are you doing?" "Teaching." he replied. "Is that a student?!" she replied scared. "Technically it's a ferret." he turned Malfoy back into himself, and he was fuming. "My father will hear about this!" Malfoy ran away like the coward he is. "Is that a threat?! I could tell you stories about your father that will make your greasy hair curl, boy! It doesn't end here!" Professor Moody shouted after him. I laughed to myself and walked to my next class, and for the first time I was actually looking forward to Potions.
I sat down at my cauldron and was hard at work on my potion. Today's lesson was Shrinking Solution; and I had to be careful because this was the kind of potion that would be so easy to mess up. "Don't mess up Weasley." I heard Malfoy snicker at me. I smiled in an over exaggerated way to show that he didn't bother me, "Thanks Malfoy, I appreciate your encouragement." I concentrated on my task of creating the potion. Not even Malfoy could bother me today. I saw Malfoy and the other Slytherins mutter confused. "Wow, I've never seen Malfoy so confused." Hermione said impressed. I grinned, "There's a first time for everything." "You seem happier than usual, Lydia." she raised an eyebrow. "I'll tell you later." I replied. I finished my potion just in time and thankfully it was up to Professor Snape's standards.
I made my way up to the library for my tutoring session with Cedric. I made sure I looked presentable and stepped through the door. I had to walk quietly because Madam Pince terrified me and I didn't want to get detention. I saw him sitting at a table and I walked to him and sat down. "Hey." I said with a smile. "Hey Lydia, how was Potions?" he asked, his blue eyes lit up as he smiled. "It was good. The potion I made was up to Snape's standards." "Snape is hard to please." he nodded. He got his Charms textbook out of his bag and opened it. "So what are you having trouble with?" he asked kindly. I was grateful that he was being so nice. I got my textbook out of my bag, and we proceeded to work. Cedric was such a good tutor, he would be so understanding and respectful when I couldn't figure out the answer to a question. We spent hours in the library, and it seemed like our own little corner of the world. "Thank you so much Cedric, you have been a great help."
I said. We walked together out of the library and made our way down to the Great Hall for dinner. "My pleasure, it was great to spend time with you." Cedric said walking beside me. "Same to you." I said giving him a side hug. He returned the hug and he still kept his arm around me. "You're amazing, just so you know." "You're too good to me." I replied hugging him. We just stood there, hugging. I didn't care if people were staring, because this moment was perfect.
