Jace nudged Alec's arm and pointed to Isabelle's missing coat, while he shrugged on his own.
The two had woken up early that morning to spend roaming around the beautiful city together. But also, mainly because the two seemed to need to sort out any spats they had over the last week.
Alec replied with a nod, tied the laces of his snow boots and they both stepped over the threshold of the Lightwood house.
"Where do you think she's gone?" Asked Jace, shutting the door behind him and immediately turning up to look at the Gard tower.
"These are probably hers," replied his parabatai, gesturing to the light footprints made in the snow. Jace had expected Izzy to be slightly wary of what she was leaving behind for unwanted stalkers.
Alec seemed to have seen the look on his face and added, "Guess she didn't mind us following her."
Or she forgot her stele thought Jace but he nodded and marked his boot with a rune to stop him leaving footprints.
The two headed in the direction of Isabelle's steps and suddenly stopped. Simultaneously, Jace and Alec looked up from the snow and towards where the track went. There was a quiet hum, slowly coming to life and growing into a roar.
Jace felt Alec shoulder past him, arrow nocked and aimed at one of the men, but his pace didn't slow. Jace followed his gaze and frowned when he saw Isabelle falling to the ground. He could hear Alec's desparate cries, calling his sister's name and chasing after her. It was surprising that he could even hear anything with the deafening roar of the helicopter but Jace could sense the anger in his parabatai's voice and it throbbed in his head. The arrow released and flew across, connecting itself on the side of the metal body; it was followed by a dark line that resembled a rope.
Jace threw his own seraph blade, after shouting "Michael", and it collided with the tall man with the eye patch's shoulder. As fast as he took it out, another flew into the air, this time cutting the woman who was holding Isabelle, but Jace had felt a twinge of guilt churning in his stomach when he attacked her, for she had a striking resemblance to Clary.
The woman with the flaming hair didn't react and successfully managed to pull Isabelle on to the helicopter. As the rest of them climbed on, the door shut and the helicopter started to take off. Jace could see Alec pulling on the rope that was coming out of his arrow and he was lifted into the air.
Following him, Jace leaped into the air, just like he had done before, and caught hold of the landing stands at the bottom of the helicopter. The two of them shared a look; understanding each other, the moved to make themselves look hidden from the view of those inside the vehicle.
The journey was a silent one, with one break. Just after the helicopter had taken off, it replaced its metal structure with reflective glass and the two boys shared a look of panic. For the citizens below, it would look like two boys floating in mid air, so they joined each other at one end and began inking up. Along with two glamour runes, they drew iratzes and a few runes to allow them to hang onto the helicopter without their arms aching. Aside from this, they didn't talk at all. That is, until their descent.
"Alec," began Jace, only to be silenced by his parabatai's hush. Alec only pointed slightly at the huge shape in the sea.
During the journey, Jace couldn't help but be mesmerised by the view. They had passed the beautiful city of Alicante a while ago but things weren't much different. There were majestic mountains reigning to the west in the distance but his eyes were drawn to the sparkling water of the river. It led him up the mountains and to the sky, which had now dimmed to the vibrant pallette of oranges and purples. His view broke off when they seemed to leave the land and soar above the ocean.
"Alec," he repeated, hoping his friend would pay attention. "What's that?" For most of his life in the Shadowhunter world in New York, Jace had seen a variety of modern and brand new technology. But none like this.
Below the helicopter, floated a thing. On its side it had bold letters displaying the word HELICARRIER. Jace could see multiple people walking across its flat surface, which had the top of a normal runway.
"Not sure, but whatever it is, I'm almost certain that it has Izzy in it," replied Alec, squinting his eyes for a closer look. Jace moved his arms, almost feeling like he was about to fall after staying in that position for over an hour. He neared Alec and pulled out his steele, tracing a Vision rune on Alec's arm. Despite Jace's shakiness of drawing with one hand, it seemed to quickly take effect and Alec no longer began squinting.
"Seems like this is where we're landing," Alec said.
Jace only nodded in response, re-tracing Glamour runes on the two of them. They just had to hope that none of the people on the 'Helicarrier' could see through their runes. It was a risk they had to take.
The helicopter ended its descent as soon as it came in contact with the concrete floor. Jace and Alec let go of the metal bars, running alongside the slowing vehicle. The pair moved to hide themselves behind a small building that looked like a control room. Despite the seemingly broad walls of the building, the two observed the helicopter intently for any signs of Isabelle.
While the blades of the helicopter came to a slow stop, the same man with the eye patch jumped out, greeted by a tall woman. They moved aside to speak in hushed tones with the odd glance.
As Jace was busy watching them, his parabatai was still looking hard at the entrance of the helicopter. He let out a gasp which caught Jace's eye. He followed Alec's line of sight and narrowed his eyes.
There she was. Isabelle. Limp.
But it wasn't the only thing he saw. The woman carrying him had short, flaming red hair. And it made him sick, thinking about Clary when he knew she was so far away from him.
Alec gave him a tap on the shoulder and he snapped out of his thoughts of Clary. He nodded his head in the direction of where the red-head and Izzy were going and Jace stealthily moved closer to them, Alec following suit. Their glamour runes would last for a while so for now they had to follow Isabelle and prevent her from any danger. They just needed to be wary. As if understanding the message, Alec quickly drew a muffling rune to silence any noises their feet made. And with that, they just managed to squeeze through the sliding doors, which Isabelle was carried through, before it shut.
Now all they had to do was manage to follow their sister without stepping on or touching any mundanes. Easy!
Not.

Hey guys, hope you're doing well :) I can tell you that things aren't going beautifully for me as there are a ton of exams being thrust upon me and they matter a lot. I've been working for a bit on this chapter - ever since I published the first one - but never got around to finishing it. I hope you'll bear with me while I shovel through the stress and figure out the perfect storyline.
Thanks,
Panda x
