I stared out at the ocean and the rolling waves of Tsav outside my window. The waves splashing against the rocks and settling down on the sandy shore. Tsav is the small island I call home. I was soon leaving it to go to camp with my twin sister, Mady. Speak of the devil,
"Don't say it," I said. I knew she was coming before she came. I knew she was gonna speak before the words left her mouth. I knew she was walking towards me before her feet moved an inch. Mady was gonna say that I was dreading going to camp. She wasn't wrong. I always dread it until I get there.
I put my hand out, curled my fingers, and a collection of scarlet coloured hex bolts shot out towards a hat sitting on my bed. I flicked my wrist towards Mady.
"Mom mixed up our clothes again" I said as she catched the white ball cap.
"Can't you just pass it to me yourself?" my sister asked.
"I did. And it's cooler this way," I said. She rolled her eyes.
"Let's go. Mom's loading up the truck."
"Five more minutes?" I asked.
"That's very cute wishful thinking on your part" she said cheerfully. I rolled my eyes and looked back out the window. Clover, our pet owl, landed on my window sill. She's a snowy, white owl that helps us with all our magic needs. Need a new wand? Send Clover to get it. Want a pair of magic stopping gloves? Send Clover to the magic world to pick them up. She's also a very good snuggler.
"At least let me get some coffee for the road," I begged.
"Again with the wishful thinking. I wish I could be as positive as you, Nor, and so early in the morning" She flew away. And yes, I mean flew.
"Shut up!" I called after her. Mady and I were identical in every way except looks and personality. She was tied to the water, my sister. Temper like the tides.
I'm quite the opposite. I love the water just as much as my sister, I just don't have a flaring temper and a set of white flowy dresses. Mady and I both have light brown wavy hair. I have green eyes while she has brown.
The Nolan family consists of witches and wizards. I'm a witch that has chaos magic reality warping powers which means I have telepathy, telekinesis, flight and hex bolts which I can use to light flammable objects, contain or remove air from a particular volume, deflect objects, stop the momentum of projectiles, open doors, explode objects, create force fields and deflect magical attacks. It's very complicated.
Mady uses the elements like the wind, water, earth and fire to fuel her powers such as flight, deflecting objects, lighting flammable objects and anything else you can do using the elements. Mom uses a wand for all her potions and charms. The only thing about our family is that no one on Tsav knows about our abilities. Mom owns a bookshop. It seems to fit perfectly with the island's ominous and gloomy ambience. None of the residents of Tsav dare say what we are but let's just say if you need the odd helping hand, we're the ones to call.
I made my way downstairs to grab a quick breakfast before making our way down to the fairy. Mady was there with a bagel in her hand.
"You can't keep telling me not to complain when you're gonna have to make friends this year" I said and shoved a croissant in my mouth.
"I don't need friends, Nor. I have you and that's all I'll ever need" She replied.
"Well you're not gonna have me the entire summer. We might be put in different tents again." I said.
"But making friends sounds exhausting" she groaned and I laughed. My sister finished the last of her bagel and we headed to the front door only to see the mayor standing there in all his glory. Fred Willard was a nervous old man who made sure Tsav was in tip top shape. He wanted to see if Aisling Nolan could fix something. If she could throw some things in a black cauldron and magically fix his problems. He just didn't know about the magic part.
