I pull my headphones over my ears, sinking into a distant world once more. The train shakes at every turn, and I try to stop myself from falling onto the strangers I am trapped in this carriage with. I probably shouldn't have my music on this loud but I don't care. If damaging my ears is what it takes to block out the world then so be it.
The train suddenly slams to a stop, screaming in pain as the doors open.I pick up my black bag, throwing it over my shoulder and step outside into the cold November air, shivering as the wind attacks my face. Pulling my jacket tighter around me I leave the underground station and walk to school.
My prediction is that today will be the same as yesterday, which was the same as the day before, which was the same as every other school day this year. It gets a bit repetitive but I don't particularly want to change anything; that would involve talking to the people who are so fake about who they are and what they actually look like under the millions of layers of makeup that Barbie would be jealous.
A shoulder smacks into mine as someone hurries past. The boy stops suddenly, an apology already forming on his lips, but he's smirking so I just walk past him, not bothering to acknowledge him.
I hear a muffled sound after a while, which just manages to sneak past the pounding bass of my music. Pulling off my headphones, I glance back over my shoulder. The guy is jogging to catch up with me.
"Hey!", he calls. I keep walking but my headphones remain around my neck; I'm curious.
"What do you want?" This throws him for a while, he probably wasn't expecting me to be so blunt. In fact, judging from his dark blonde hair and green-grey eyes, he's probably used to girls throwing themselves at him. I hate people who are so cocky they think that the whole world worships them.
"Nothing, I guess. What's up?"
"What does it look like?"
He pauses awkwardly, probably not having thought this far ahead. He probably assumed I'd be all over him by this point. It's disgusting, really.
"I don't know." he admits.
"Okay. Bye."
I speed up, letting my music swamp my senses once more. I snicker as I imagine his surprised face. It always satisfies me to make that sort of person realise that not everyone sees them as wonderful, faultless beings.
*** (A/N whoever has the best name for these guys gets the dedication next chapter ;) )
Lunch bell finally rings as I dump the test tube contents down the sink. Chemistry sucks. Testing for carbon dioxide isn't exactly what I want to do with my life.
I sling my bag over my shoulder, grabbing my lunch from my locker. My form teacher calls the entire class into the form room, claiming to have 'important news'. When will he realise that nobody wants to join the chess club?
Sighing, I take my seat, taking a sneaky bite of my sandwich. I chew slowly as he thanks us for being here and listening. It's really not necessary but that's old people for you. I take a sip from my water bottle
"We have a new student."
I almost spit out my water. We haven't had a new student in years. Finally, I notice the guy standing next to him. It's the one who crashed into me this morning. Are you serious? Really? Of all the people, it had to be him?
He's leaning against the back wall, seemingly bored out of his mind. His gaze flickers around the classroom, before he does a double take as his eyes meet mine. He smirks and keeps staring right at me until Mr Koanes has finally finished introducing him. These old people, I swear. There's this thing called getting to the point, he should try it sometime.
The teacher glances over at the boy, I think his name is Harold or something, and then over at me, confused. He dismisses us, but not before a final suspicious glance in our general direction.
As he leaves, I snigger at the fascinated stare of well over half the girls in the room. It's sickening. Sure, he's not ugly, but they don't even know the guy. He drops into the seat next to mine. I raise my eyebrows at him.
"Hey." he begins. "Don't believe I've had the pleasure yet. Harvey, and you are?" He offers his hand but I stare at it until he drops it awkwardly.
"Thalia." I say in a with a tone of finality that clearly says the conversation is over.
"Pretty name for a pretty face." he flirts. I can almost feel the death glares from the other girls, who are watching as if this is some kind of soap opera. I ignore him, flicking through my phone and taking a bite of my chicken sandwich.
"Playing hard to get, are we? I like that. Challenge accepted."
I turn to face him, incredulous. If this guy's ego was any bigger he'd need a shopping cart to drag it around with him.
"I'm not interested." I state calmly, getting up and leaving the room to pack my bag for geography. He follows me like a lost puppy. A stubborn, annoying, cocky lost puppy.
"Why are you following me?"
"I have geography. And so do you, therefore I will walk to class with you." he declares.
"No."
"Oh kitten, you love me really."
"I've known you for all of five minutes." I explain slowly to him. He's obviously not the brightest. "Please go away."
"Nope." I sigh, pushing open the door for the geography classroom. I spot the only seat that doesn't have an available seat right next to it, in case he gets any ideas and decides to annoy me for the whole lesson. But obviously he sits right behind me.
"We're going to be such good friends, kitten, I can feel it already." he smirks.
