“ So, I have amnesia and you are my parents?” a girl asks. Her parents look at her with sadness in their eyes. “ Yes, Jennifer we’re your parents.” one said. Jennifer was in a car accident which landed her in the hospital. Unfortunately, she woke up with amnesia. Her parents, Samantha and Jared, already spoke to her doctor and they were able to bring her home today. 

    As they rode home Jennifer was quiet in the back seat, staring off into space. She’s been like this since she woke up. She’s usually a talkative girl. It’s only natural she’s like this because of her amnesia right? They tried to talk to her but to no avail. 

    After a while they ended up at their house. “ Do you remember this place kiddo?” her dad asks as they approach the front door. Jennifer gave him a blank stare and said flatly“ No”. She then walked into the house and into her room. Both parents looked at each other, wondering why she’s like this. It’s because of the amnesia they concluded. They were so focused on her attitude they didn’t even notice that Jennifer just walked to her room without any directions.

    Two weeks pass and it’s going weirdly. She's always in her room and never speaks to her parents. If she did it would be a simple yes or no. Jennifer is at school now. Her parents decided she might remember things if she was back in school.

    Right now Samantha’s cleaning Jennifer's room. She usually wouldn’t do this but Jennifer has started to become unclean. She was clean before but now she’s lazy. She acts like she doesn’t care about anything.

She acts differently. 

She speaks differently.

It’s like she’s not even her daughter. 

Samantha shakes the thought out of her head. Of course it’s her daughter who else could it be?

    Just as she thought this she heard the door open. It could only be Jennifer since Jared didn’t get off work until later. Samantha prepares to leave the now clean room until she gets an idea. When Jennifer was younger Samantha would hide in her room and scare her. ‘Maybe that’ll bring back something’ she thinks. She hears footsteps outside the door and immediately bolts to the cramped closet. She squeezes in and closes the door.

Jennifer opens the door and walks in. Samantha prepares to jump out and scare her until Jennifer starts calling someone. “ It’s insane that those two idiots believe me you know.” Samantha looks shocked. Why would Jennifer speak like this? “ They really believe I’m their daughter, can you believe that?” Samantha stops in shock. Not her daughter? What does she mean, of course she’s her daughter. ‘But If that was the case it would explain why she was acting this way’ she rationalized. Where was her daughter?Now terrified Samantha’s breath starts quickening. Her mind races with thoughts and conspiracies before realizing she knocked something down and that Jennifer was walking towards her.
