This chapter is dedicated to my friend, @stopsignghost who promised she'd read my story once it reached 1k. Well, after many months it finally did, so now you gotta suffer with me ;)
Also, to my readers, please note that some events within my fanfic will not correctly line up with the canon timeline from the books. In addition, I've changed many events/conversations will be changed from the original series, so please don't write in the comments that I've written something incorrectly. Please enjoy!

I make my way back to the front of the train, searching for the compartment with Harry, my mind whirling to come up with an excuse for my absence. My fingers slide absently along the compartment doors as I quickly glance into each room, in hopes of finding a raven haired boy with emerald eyes.
After a few minutes, I stumble upon the correct compartment. Opening the door, I notice two students I've never seen before.
"Hello," I smile at the group, leaning against the doorframe before taking a seat to the left of Ginny.
"Hullo," A boy with blond hair and a round face greets me. He has kind features, and clutches a potted plant.
I peer at the plant in his lap, it resembles a cactus and appears be leaking a yellowish pus substance, "What a peculiar plant." I note.
"Oh this? This is a Mimbulus mimbletonia, Gran gave it to me as a gift." The boy says, fondly looking at his plant, "She says I got a knack for herbology."
I nod, tearing my eyes away from the plant and to the girl who sits beside Harry. Her head is tilted, and she stares at me with wide grey eyes and strangely shaped glasses.
"You've got nargles ... did you know?" The girl with long blonde hair and peculiar glasses asks me. She has her wand tucked behind her ear, and wears colourful radish earrings.
"Nargles?" I ask, and she peers at her magazine which she holds upside-down.
She nods enthusiastically, but doesn't elaborate.
Harry sighs and motions to the girl, "This is Loony ... erm, I mean Luna Lovegood. She's a Ravenclaw in Ginny's year."
I smile at the girl; she seems a bit odd, but charming in her own unique way.
"I'm Neville Longbottom, same year as you, I think." The boy with the plant says sheepishly to me.
"Glad to meet you both," I say, but something bothers me. I've heard that name before, Longbottom. I can't recall from where exactly, but it seems so familiar.
"I'm Olive Atkins, this will be my first year at Hogwarts." I say, still trying to place why the surname Longbottom is ringing a bell in my mind.
"Oh, I do hope you get Ravenclaw, it'd be lovely to have a new friend." Luna says dreamily, and my stomach flutters at her kindness. She tilts her head against the compartment door and crinkles her nose in concentration, focusing on something in that upside-down magazine of hers. She reminds me of a fairy, like the ones in muggle children's book; carefree and whimsical. I find myself jealous of her free-spirited nature.
"Nonsense, Olive will get Gryffindor," Harry grins at me, and I return his smile.
"I guess we'll see soon," I say, nervousness circling my stomach.
"It was a bloody nightmare when I was sorted, I was petrified that I'd get Slytherin," Harry shudders.
I raise my eyebrows, "Erm, not that it'll be like that for you! I'm sure it'll be fine," Harry stammers, and I chuckle at his attempt to reassure me.
