Here's the thing, even if they wanted to run away, they couldn't.
All of the exits were blocked and boarded off to keep those monsters out. But guess what? Those things were clawing at the high windows with long, sharp nails. The hoard was so strong and persistent that they were just about to bust open the large bolted doors, but the group of workers were able to move a heavy soda machine up against the entrance just in time. They knew they would have to come up with another plan, they could only be held off for so long.
The sound of glass breaking caused an alarm to go off in the manager's head.
She turned to her left and spotted a bloodied arm reaching into the store through the glass windows. Acting on impulse the manager sped to find the bug-killing spray. She tore the canister from its brand new packaging and raced back to the windows.
She didn't hesitate to douse the arm in the strong chemical concoction, but this did not stop the creature. Despite the liquid entering the gaping wounds of their glass-cut flesh, the monster kept at breaking in. In a brief moment, the beast pulled its arm out and hissed in the face of the worker, revealing humanoid insect-like faces. It was being affected by it.
The manager sprung back and panicked on what to do next. Luckily, one of her workers was quick to grab as many gloves and protective gear as possible, disperse them among the others, and they all grabbed as many aerosol sprays as they could carry. They wouldn't dare to come close to touching those things for fear of being infected.
Two workers heavily sprayed the doors, repelling the beasts from the entryways. A few other workers began spraying through the broken windows. The manager took a knife from the delicatessen and began slashing any monsters that even stepped one foot into the store. If a limb got through, off it went.
When their spray supplies began to drain, the next thing they turned to were the pesticides. One worker would sit on another's shoulders to reach the high windows. The windows where the most vulnerable spots in the store, and they were also where the creatures were charging up against.
So much time had passed and it seemed as if there was no end in sight. Monster after monster fell or flew away, but it felt as if more would take their place.
Eventually the crowd was dying. Bit by anxious bit, the group nearly fended off the entire lot. As the pace began to slow down, their supplies began to diminish. They were struggling to make it last. They resorted to using bleach and disinfectant sprays.
These seemed to be working even better than the others! Once again they armed themselves and killed them all.
The manager sighed in relief.
There was a creak, then she realized the back door was still open.
