Chapter 1: Past Memories and New Beginnings

-------------------------------

Alyson's POV

We stepped onto the beach, and relaxed in the sun's warmth. We walk to an empty place with our separate bags filled with towels, sun screen, and a fresh pair on new clothes just in case. We haven't been exposed to so much sunlight since we were Silver Moon girls. Back home there was sunlight, but it was usually covered by the forests that surrounded our little town. We were in a whole new environment, and we loved it.  People were swimming, playing beach volleyball, or tanning in the sun. It was a beautiful day to be outside in California. We had picked a place where hot guys were playing volleyball with some girls. They looked our age if not a bit older.

"I want to play so badly!" Lisa whined, pouting at the people laughing and having a good time.

She was the sporty one of our group, constantly dragging us into wild and dangerous things. She knew had to make everyone laugh and have a great time. Each time she came up with a new adventure, we fell for her puppy dog face. Along with her, Jasmine was the master of deception. She was gentle inside and was practically the baby of the group, but don't be fooled. When she wanted to be wild, she could. We all loved her. She was artsy and was the best artist we've known. When she was painting one of her genuine and bright smiles came out and it was enchanting.

"Then go play," Cassie laughed at her.

"I don't want to go alone..." she sighed. Lisa's facial expression changed into one of mischief, smiling evilly at Cassie.

"I know what you're going to ask and the answer is no. NO. N to the freaking O." Cassie huffed, looking away for her.

"You're no fun Cassie!" Lisa whined.

Cassie was the fun one. She usually agreed to anything and wasn't afraid to take risks like Lisa. Sometimes we would see the vulnerable side of her.  She was the dancer. I've she has been in dancing since she was little. She has been already getting mails from many art schools around the world, offering scholarships as soon as she finished high school. This would be our last year, and then we were free.

"Alyson you have been so quiet... Oh see a guy you like?" Jasmine laughed, making me blush.

I was looking at a guy that looked around 18. He was playing volleyball as well with his friends.  He had light blonde hair and baby blue eyes. His lips were a soft pink colour and he was wearing no shirt. I got a good view of his really good chest. As he jumped to spike the ball, I saw his abs flex.

"Oh someone definitely can't stop staring," Cassie smirked at me.

"N-no I'm not! " I stuttered, looking down at the sand, my lips in a thin line.

They all began to laugh at my expression.  I'm the second eldest of the group. I'm into music and can play the guitar and piano. I have made some of my own music, which the girls have countless times broadcasted to the whole school which now made me do a lot of assemblies. I'm eighteen just like the rest of the girls. I have had boyfriends before but it wasn't one of those really intimate relationships.

"Guys stop it!" I hissed. I was starting to get annoyed.

"IN COMING!" someone screamed just as a ball hit me in the head, hard.

"Oww!" I winced, clutching my nose. Luckily it wasn't bleeding.

"Are you alright?" a guy asked, crouching on the ground. "Here let me see your nose."

He gently pulled my hand off my nose. It was then that I realized that he was the guy I thought was hot. Oh dear, I could feel my face heat up. This is bad!

"It doesn't look bad. The redness will leave in a couple of minutes. I'm sorry," he smiled at me.

"No problem. It was an accident" I laughed. Did I just laugh?

"I'm still sorry. Hey, would you guys like to play with us?" he asked.

"Sure!" my friends all chorused together, jumping up and running to get good positions.  I stayed seated not daring to get up and embarrass myself.

"You're not coming? My name's Steven." he smiled shyly at me. Aww it was so cute.

"Uhm I can't really play volleyball and my name is Alyson." I looked down ashamed.

"No problem. I'll teach you, you'll be on my team" he smiled brightly, dragging me to my feet, not giving me a chance to protest.

From that day on, Steven and I were inseparable. We we're always together, and had the best memories. It really was the perfect summer break...

------------------------------------------------------

(3 months later)

"Guys, let's take one more picture" I said.

We all gathered at the entrance of the airport and Steven, my summer crush, took the camera as all of us girls gathered in group. He took the picture and returned the camera to me. I stared at him sadly as he

reached down and kissed my lips lightly.

"I got to go, but be safe. Don't forget me..." he trailed off as he got into car and drove.

I could see that this goodbye hurt him. I remembered all the times we were together and a tear rolled down my cheek.

"I won't forget" I whispered to myself.

Arms encircled me and looked at my best friends, hugging them back. They were like my sisters. We were there for each through everything. Since the time Jasmine's Mother got cancer and died when she was 12 and Lisa broke her foot falling of the tree we all climbed. Everyone back in our home town knew we were inseparable. Cassie wiped my tears and pulled back to look at me sadly.

"Comfort food?" she asked.

"How about a sleepover?" Lisa chimed in.

"And a movie marathon of sad romantic movies?" Jasmine offered.

I smiled slightly and nodded. We then made our way to through the gates and boarded the plane. I sat back getting comfortable in my seat and looked out the window. Tears rolled down my face as we took off and leaving California behind and heading home. I would never forget what happened in California. None of us would.
