Prolouge
Ana ran, barely glancing behind her, hearing the men shout. Her brother Alexi was a few steps ahead.
"Run, Ana!" he called to her.
She ran faster, pushing her small body to the limit.
"Alexi I can't go any faster!" she shouted, scared.
Alexi glanced behind him, "Just keep running Ana!"
He slowed his pace a little so he was next to her. She reached for his hand, trying to hold on.
BANG.
Alexi screamed, his pace slowing painfully.
"Run Ana! Run!"
"Alexi!" she shouted, but she didn't stop.
"Ana go!" he collapsed on the ground, his leg bleeding.
The men chasing them closed in on him and Ana forced herself to look ahead, to keep running. The snow fell quietly around her, dancing as if nothing was wrong. Ana tried to focas on them, not her brother's screams growing ever more distant. Wet drops fell down her face, either tears or sweat. She ran farther than any 9 year old girl should have to, and even more. The men were far behind her now, but still she didn't stop until she slipped on some ice and landed on the ground hard. Only then did she allow herself to think of her now dead family. Only then did she really let herself cry.
