Chapter 1

When you meet the right guy for you, you just know it. There's no doubt in your mind. Maybe not immediately, but eventually you know that he is the man that God created specifically for you.

That's how I felt with Ryan. He wasn't just my boyfriend. He was also my best friend. Someone I could talk to about literally anything. I could always be myself around him. He accepted me for me, and never compared me to anyone else. There were no expectations he wanted me to live up to. I loved him with every ounce of my being, and the best part was that that love was returned. Even on the day of our two year anniversary, our love was just as passionate as it was on day one. I still find it funny to look back and remember how much Ryan and I had hated each other. It seemed like so long ago now, as if it had been in another lifetime. no expectations he wanted me to live up to. It was our senior year, and I would be heartbroken about that if it weren't for the fact that we were going to attend the same college. We would both be attending the University of Michigan. Ryan decided to major in Physical Therapy, while I majored in English. I didn't usually think of physical therapists as being attractive, but I think I'd change my mind if Ryan became one.

My best friend, Hannah Millikan, would also be attending the University of Michigan with my boyfriend and I. Unfortunately, our other close friend, Audrey Simon, planned to go to Texas for college. Her and my friend Tyler Sauber had been planning on going to the same college, however, when they broke up last year, Audrey changed her plans. Tyler and I were no longer anything more than acquaintances. I couldn't even remember the last time I'd talked to him actually. Once he and Audrey had split up, it'd become awkward for me to talk to him. We had slowly grown apart until we had ended up being completely estranged to each other.

My older brother, Cameron, healed tremendously well since the car accident. His broken bones have healed, but, of course, he still has scars which will stay with him for the rest of his life. Scars not only on his body, but also his mind. He's still nervous about cars, but my parents and I have been helping him get past his fear. Cameron graduated high school two years ago and now has a college girlfriend. Things have been sounding pretty serious between them. However, my parents and I have no idea what she is like because Cameron has yet to let us meet her. He wants to make sure she is "worthy of meeting the family" as Cameron had put it. Personally, I think he's just afraid that our strange parents will scare her away.

Today is my two year anniversary with Ryan. He'd told me that he had this big surprise planned for me, some gift he'd bought me, and I was beyond excited. He said that he would be at my house to pick me up at six-thirty. It was six-fifteen and I still couldn't decide on an outfit. But that was probably because I'd made the fatal mistake of asking Hannah to help me pick it out. We had been standing in front of my open closet for ten minutes as she carefully thought out the best outfit for my date.

As she tapped her chin with her index finger, Hannah said, "Hmm. Wear the pink dress with the teal flats."

I grabbed the pink dress out of my closet and began to remove it from the hanger when Hannah held up a hand. "Wait! No! Oh my gosh, you can't wear that. What are you thinking, Lexi?"

She looked at me with disgust as if she could not possibly fathom why I'd even consider wearing that dress. Even though she'd been the one who picked it out. Groaning, I returned the poor, rejected dress back to its former spot in my closet.
