It was a cold October day in Oregon, in a small, coastal town with the strangely familiar name of Arcadia Bay. Leaves stormed down the squeaky trees as grey clouds flowed through the sky. Chloe was sitting on a dead tree trunk by the beach, her eternal cigarette resting between her index and middle finger as she admired the view, a few rebellious hair strands sticking out of her blue beanie. She closed her eyes, feeling the strong vibration of the wind on her face. Shivers travelled under her skin as she remembered the day Max choose to save her instead of the town. Chloe opened her eyes and looked up to the right, where the lighthouse once stood. Then, calmly, a frail hand came to rest on her shoulder and her heart immediately calmed down. Chloe's eyes shifted to the left where Max was standing, a smile on her angel face. Chloe's heart melted.
-"So, are you coming or not? We still have a long way to go," declared Max.
-"Yeah, Sweet Max, don't worry about me. Just checking out on my ability to, you know, breathe air."
-"pff, you're right. In the truck with you and your cigarettes, I can't even take a puff of oxygen without inhaling your crap. Come on, I wanna drive a bit more before the sun goes down."
-"as you wish, your Majesty." Chloe jumped on her feet, took a last sip of her smoke and throwed the rest in the water while she bowed down in front of the other girl. Max rolled her eyes. She turned around to climb on Chloe's pickup, their rusty but fierce travel companion.
Chloe took the driver's side, winked to the little Elvis Presley bobble head forever stuck on the dashboard, and looked in the mirror as she put the keys in the ignition. The eye of providence tagged on the backseat a long time ago looked back at her, as certain words flashed briefly through her mind.
"This is much bigger than you."
The blue haired girl stepped on the gas and drove off, sand twirling down the wheels, with the only person in the world that mattered right now sitting in the seat next to her.
She didn't give a single fuck about anything besides Max.
