A Brave Woman

Up until now, Kate still can't imagine how her life goes on this new normal. Way back before, Kate was not fearful of meeting face to face with her friends and classmates. She breathed and wandered to different locations where she wanted, but it ended up due to the COVID-19 outbreak, where thousands of people are affected. Everything transformed into this new normal.

Kate is a 20-year-old girl living in the city of Cebu. She is a kind, loving, smart, persistent, and scholar student at one of the University in Cebu City. Because of poverty, she does everything to the proceeds of her study despite this new normal today.

"Where are you getting on?" Her mother asked. "I'm getting on to our cousin's housemother to visit Ashley," I replied. "Okay, just take good care of the ways to get there and message me if your there already." Her mother mumbled. She takes the way to her cousin's house. When she gets there, she texted her mother and informed her that she's already there. "Hey Kate, thanks for visiting me. I missed you so much." Ashley confessed while hugged her." I missed you more, Ashley." She responded and hugged Ashley. They talk about their upcoming classes. "Kate, do you want to continue your study of this year, in this new normal?" Ashley asked. " Yes, of course, Ashley, I want to continue on my study whatever happens," Kate responded. They're talking while eating in a couple of hours. After the moment, Kate heads back to their house to help her mother with the household chores.

Days passed, their online class begins. Kate opened her cell phone and started to organize her subjects and the schedules. From the very beginning of their online meet-up, there are already a lot of projects and activities given by teachers. She has many sleepless nights. But Kate is strong enough to manage all the project and pass it on time of the due date. As her online class goes on, she has been struggling, especially when there are a lot of projects that need to accomplish in the day and, her cell phone is quickly getting a low battery. Without her cellphone, Katie can't do her other projects. She can't complain to her mother because she knows that they don't have enough money to buy a new one.

"Fighting self, fighting for my dreams," I uttered. "Daughter, are you okay?" Her mother asked. "Yes, mother, thanks for your concern," I replied. She didn't tell her mother that she's not okay because she doesn't want her to worry about her. She knows that her mother has lots of problems also.

One day, her father asks permission from her mother to go back to his job as a construction worker to have money and help her buy a new cell phone for her study. Her mother supports the decision of her father because they need money, as of this moment. Days passed, her father stars in his job. Months later, her father calls them.

"Ring." "Ring." "Ring." Her phone rings. " Hello father, how are you? I missed you so much, father." I uttered. " Hi my daughter, I missed you too. How's your school?" Her father inquired. " It's going well, father. I'm still fighting through my cell phone is not working well," I answered. "Very good my daughter, keep it up. Anyway, can you please call your mother? I want to talk to her?" Her father pleaded. "Okay, father, wait for a second. Mother, the father wants to talk to you." I shouted because she's far away from me. "Okay, daughter, coming," She replied and walked in here to talk to my father.

Her mother talks to her father for a moment. Her father wants to surprise her daughter Kate. He wants to buy a new cell phone for her daughter so that she won't be struggling more with her study. That plan is a secret to their daughter Kate. Her father sends the money to the Palawan Pawnshop.

" Mother, what does the father told you about?" I asked. " Nothing, daughter, he just talks about how we were doing here." She replied. "Ah, okay, mother," She uttered and continue doing my school works.

The day after that, her mother asks for permission that she will go to the market to buy the foods that they need. Kate has no idea what her parent's plans and she continues to accomplish her project. Her mother goes to Palawan to claim the money that her husband sent yesterday. A few moments later, Kate received a call from the unknown.

"Ring." "Ring." "Ring." Her cell phone is ringing. "Hello, may I know who is this speaking?" She asked. "Hello, is this Kate?" An unknown guy asked back to me. " Yes, this me,  how may I help you?" I asked him again. " Ma'am, I want to inform you that your mother is in the hospital now, she had an accident. She was hit and run with the unidentified car driver. Can you please come to the hospital right now?" The man mumbled. "What! Oh no! Okay, I'll be there in an instant thank you for your information." She answered and ended the call right away.

She went to the hospital where her mother is confined. The moment that she's been there, she's screaming, seeing her mother lying on the bed. She doesn't have an idea of how to help her from the pain felt by her mother. She calls her father and told him what happened to her mother. Her father cried and drove to the hospital, where her mother is confined. As her father came, she hugged him tight and sobbed as what her father also did to her. "Where's your mother? I want to see her." Please calm down, sir, were working on it. We will do everything to save her." The doctor said. "Please do everything to save her, doctor. I can't afford to lose my wife.

A day after that incident, her father confessed to her about their plans for her. Kate cried out upon knowing that she thinks that she was the reason for her mother's accidents. They're worried about her mother's situation and the bills in the hospital. They don't have enough money to pay the bills. Her studies left behind because of what happened to her mother. She doesn't know where to get money for the hospital bills. Her father doesn't have enough money.  They don't know where to look and calls for help. One thing that she can get money is to sell her cell phone. She's giving up on her study because the life of her mother is more important than her studies. She thinks about how she can proceed with her studies without the presence of her mother. So, she sells it from her neighbors. She then goes back to the hospital to visit her mother. And there she finds a companion and a miracle help from God. She met an unknown guy in the hospital.

" Hey, miss," An unknown guy from behind uttered. "What?" I answered in a lower voice while looking at him directly. " Ahm, okay, I'm not a bad guy as you think. I'm Dan, one of the doctors here. I  want to help you because I so pity looking at you. I just wanted to extend my helping hands and take this without having the thought of how to pay me back because I help you freely." The doctor uttered. " Are you sure, doctor?" I asked. " Yes, I'm very sure of that." The doctor replied. "Oh, my God! Thank you so much for your kindness doctor, thank you so much. As of this moment, I need help from somebody willing to help us." I replied and smiled at him.

Months passed by, her mother recovered from the accident she had. Her father goes back to work. The teacher let her continue to her study, and she's happy about it.  Katie's family is very thankful for the person that helped them during their downfall days. Especially for giving them financial assistant to start over. She's overwhelmed with what the doctor did to them.

Her family recovers from such pain brought by that incident. She is more motivated to her study, knowing that there's still a person who has a kind heart and is willing to help the poor people.

Now she's inspired to continue her study no matter what happens. As of now, she is doing her tasks as a student. She knows that God is with her to surpass the challenges and guide her to her success.
