Cold December

Chwe Hansol & Kim Dahyun

I loved the way how she always make me smile. Her jokes that will never fail to make me laugh. Well, everything about her can make me feel this indescribable sensation. She never missed a shot through my heart.

"Hansol, hurry up!"

She called, her sweats were dripping from her forehead. We went hiking on her favorite mountain, camping as well. It's her dream since we started our relationship four years ago. She's been a fan of high beautiful sceneries despite of its risk.

Even though I'm already tired, I continued walking behind her. Her hair was tied up, she was my perfect view after all. No matter how she looked like.

Checking my wrist watch, oh damn, it's already five and the sunset is already near. Not long, we already reached our campsite. The sun was about to set when we were preparing our tent.

She kept on nagging me to hurry up. So just like the woman I first saw. She never really changed.

"Hurry up, let's watch the sunset together..." She suggested. I nodded slightly before sitting beside her. I swung my arms around her shoulder, staring at her for a little bit.

"Hansol, the sunset is there." She pointed the horizon, where the earth meets the sky. She smiled when I leaned on and rested my head on her shoulder.

She giggled, ruffling my hair. She's messing at it again. But I didn't complain. It's her, there's nothing wrong when it's the woman I love. "What's with the sunset when you're my favorite view, Dahyun-ah."

She chuckled, that made me smile. We stayed still in that position, watching the sun to set and the stars to appear. It was so calming and warm, since I'm beside her. She's always sharing her warmth with me, that's why coldness was far from my spot.

We took pictures of ourselves, I held the camera, while she's hugging my neck. As the camera clicked, she kissed my checks which got me smile wider.

"Thank you."

She said. I sat properly, before kissing the top of her head. Though I was confused, I smiled then said,

"You're always welcome, Dahyun-ah."

"Thank you for everything, for fulfilling your promises. This. You hated this kinds of places, but thank you for being here."

I ruffled her hair, pinching her nose. I just nodded then stood silent in the most comfortable atmosphere. Being with her is peace... She's my everything.

I knew her back in senior school. We're on the same class. She's also our class representative. Honestly, she's the loudest student, while I am isolating myself from too much people. She approached me, saying I should talk more.

She talked about lots of things back then. I don't know if she's interested with me, and I didn't assume it that way neither. She's just so friendly, she's also someone that will actually stay by your side if you're alone.

She never failed making me feel like I have a purpose.

She became someone important to me, not just a friend.

Honestly, she confessed to me first. I even remembered her saying 'I love you, Hansol' when a bus came by our way. Luckily, I was able to heard what she was saying.

Then it started there. Everything started there.

"Hey, can you promise me something..."

"Hmm, what is it?" I asked while she's laying on my chest. We were both laying on the cloth while we were watching the stars.

"Promise me that someday you'll never forget me and all of this."

It was weird to hear, but I instantly agreed. I can't even get her out of my head, in that way, would I be able to forget her? She's the memory that I will never forget even in the after life.

I promise her that.

"I promise. And you, promise me that you'll never leave me, okay?"

She sat up, her elbows supporting her up while she's facing me. She touched my face before nodding with a smile.

We both promised to stay with each others' side. That was the happiest moments of my life, being with her is.

Her eyes were like the sunrise, everytime I lock gazes with it, I can see another tommorow. I can see another journey with her. Everything became wonderful and colorful with her.

My life would be meaningless and dull without her.

Just at the moment, I felt a warm tear slipping from my eyes. I just felt it for an unknown reason, I woke up with the realization that those memories were already gone.

She's already gone. Fuck.

I opened my eyes. That dream again. My gaze spotted our last picture together. The one when we went hiking over the mountains. My face saddens upon the realization. I cannot bring it back again.

I cannot bring her back again.

Tears started streaming again from my face. I covered my face when tears started streaming again and again. I can't help it but to let the pain escape through my eyes.

Feeling the cold air of December, it's been two years and I still can't get over with Dahyun's death. It was still clear in my mind.

She didn't even said goodbye to me. There was no sign of her leaving me, that's why it became too sudden.

The day after that we went hiking, she texted me to meet her at the park, our usual place. She said, we will meet there and that she have something for me. I went there first and I even waited for her...

Two hours later, the first snow of the year came. It was already the first day of December. I was even freezing while waiting for her. But she did not came...

I just found out from one of her friends that she got into an accident. I hurried despite of the panic I have inside. I badly wanted to cry, but I don't wanna think negatively. I didn't believe she was already gone, not until I found her dead body by myself.

She's already so pale. She's already cold.

Tzuyu, her friend, gave me a box. I opened it and cried so hard. Fuck, it was even an engagement ring.

That was my worst nightmare, how I wish it was really a fricking nightmare.

She broke her promise. She left while I was so devastated and ruined.

I look through the window, snow has already started and yet another cold December since my warmth is already gone.

"I will never ever forget you, Dahyun-ah."
