"Do you know anything about the sirens?" I looked over at him as we walked across the street to my house. He seemed in no hurry to get out of the cold.
He put his hands in his pockets to probably keep them warm. "No, not really." He tried to answer, clearing his throat. It sounded as if he was trying to sound stern, but it was coated with a layer of sadness.
I didn't push that matter any further and just began count the steps from my mailbox to the front door. I opened the door and he followed me in. I wasn't sure what I was going to tell my aunt, but hopefully it'll come out at the spur of the moment.
I walked into the kitchen with Logan by my side. Darlene lifted her eyes from her papers and waited for an explanation I'm guessing.
"Uh..." I hesitated waiting for words to form, but failed to.
"Hi, I'm Logan." He took a step forward and extended his hand towards my aunt. Darlene shuck his hand with authority and he stood up taller.
"Hello Logan, I'm Nalia's aunt, Darlene. Uh, I didn't know she planned on having friends over or else I would've taken my work elsewhere and not look so messy." She chuckled to herself, removing her glasses.
"Sorry, I forgot to tell you. He's helping me on, uh, my Chemistry. Mrs.Read paired him up with me. So ya..." I continued on with my not very thought out lie.
"Okay, well, where are youguys going to be working at because as you can tell, I've kinda over run this table." She smiled towards Logan.
"We'll be upstairs." I pointed towards the stairs and lead Logan towards my room.
**********************
"What were you running from?" I asked him after a while of silence."Why is that any of your business?" Logan answered harshly.
He was trying to come off rude and distant, but there was tiredness under his eyes filled with hurt.
"Well, you are sitting in my room, but I do barely know you and I'm not even sure why I felt obligated to help you." I tried coming up with a reason more for myself than him. I've never helped anyone like this before and I had myself confused.
"Well, I don't know... I'm probably just as confused as you are..." He looked away at the window to his right.
I was noticing his posture as he sat across from me in my desk chair.
'He's kinda cute' I said to myself. I deny myself a lot of simple pleasures so letting myself think a boy is cute should not be such a big deal.
"What's your grade in Chemistry?" Logan was looking at me and it snapped me out of my thoughts.
"What? Oh, uh... You don't actually have to help me with Chemistry."
"I know, but might as well. So what's your grade?" He looked a little more alive once we stopped talking about earlier.
I sighed,"D+..." I answered, but suddenly feeling self conscious for doing so. "What about you?"
"I pass with a B." He didn't seem to be flaunting the answer nor proud of it. "So, I'll help you then."
One and a half hours later, I was leaning against my wall sitting on my bed and Logan was on the edge of my bed explaining stoichiometry to me. He had my Chemistry book in hand and I had all my worksheets. I'll admit, I am starting to understand this stupid subject and I am enjoying Logan's presence.
"And then you multiply that by the coefficients which is in the balanced equations." Logan pointed to the book.
"Okay, well I never thought there would be a day where I somewhat understand chemistry so thank you." I smiled at him and he gave me a smile back.
"Nalia, did Logan go home yet?" I heard my aunt yell from the bottom of the stairs.
I looked up at Logan and then at the clock. 10:15.
I looked back at Logan hoping to find a quick answer, but he just sat there starring back at me.
"Uh, ya, a while ago." I stayed silent waiting to see if I succeeded in my lie.
"K, goodnight." She yelled back.
I sighed in relief and leaned back up against the wall.
"Why'd you do that?" I looked at him a little confused.
"I don't know, I wasn't sure if you wanted to go home seeing as you were running away from there." Which all seemed like a pretty good answer so I didn't panic.
"Okay... Thanks."
*****************************
"Wait, so you gave her a bloody nose because why?" Logan chuckled at me while I was laughing quietly but pretty hard."No no it wasn't for any reason, it was the baby doll that did it!" I tried explaining while catching my breath. We've been sitting on my bed, exchanging random stories back and forth for the past couple hours. I was trying to tell him about the time when I gave my sister an accidental bloody nose while playing with a cabbage patch kid doll.
Logan looked over at the clock and then back at me. "It's getting late, I should let you sleep." He stood up.
"Where're you going to go?" I looked up at him as he stood up.
"I don't know, actually."
"I don't know either. I have never had a boy come over that I barely know and stay for this long. So, I don't know what to do in this type of situation." I fiddled with my blankets, "I would offer for you to spend the night, but I don't know if that'd be awkward. And then there's the fact that you probably don't want to go home." I tried explaining.
"Well... This is awkward." Logan responded.
