Abby
Mom and Mrs. Moore walked into the salon in front of me and Bree. She had grabbed my hand just before she had even let go of her fathers, Owen's, hand as we all stood in the entryway while Owen reminded her twenty times to be good and use her manners. She had promised she would and smiled up at me. I didn't mind the hand holding even if it hadn't stopped throughout the car ride. She let go long enough for me to buckle and unbuckle her and then her hand was back in mine. During lunch, she had insisted on sitting beside me. She had ordered the kid version of the chicken that I had ordered myself.
Working with kids may have helped me no minding but honestly, I just really liked Bree. She was excited about everything and she was adorable. She made me wonder if the child I almost had would have been anything like her. I shook my head and told myself to stop thinking like that. I would probably end up crying and that would just ruin the day and possibly the evening. It was my parent's night. I wouldn't do that.
"It's so cute how attached she is to Abby," Mrs. Moore's voice pulled me from my thoughts thankfully. She had mentioned that several times and looked over the moon that Bree liked her so much. She didn't get it. She had a mother... somewhere and she was pretty sure that she wouldn't be as happy that her daughter was attached to her father's ex as Mrs. Moore was. Then again, who knew if her mom even knew anything about Abby. Owen probably didn't go around talking about his secret affair with his best friends' little sister often. Or at all.
Where was her mother?
"Right this way, ladies," the receptionist smiled at the group before turning and walking toward the back of the salon. The woman introduced them to four beauticians before leaving.
Abby took a seat in the chair that the youngest looking woman stood next to. Two of the other ladies looked old enough to understand what her mom and Mrs. Moore wanted, but she wasn't sure that she wouldn't end up with a beehive look or something. That just wasn't her.
"I want to sit beside Queen Abby!" Bree said, not so shockingly. Everyone laughed as Mrs. Moore lifted her and set her in the seat beside her. She told the woman she could have whatever she wanted which was followed with Bree clapping with excitement, "I want to look like Queen Abby!" We all laughed again.
"She idolizes you," the woman that was doing Bree's hair smiled at her. I smiled. "Do you know what you are doing yet?"
I nodded, "I was just thinking a simple braided crown with a bun," I looked at the woman that was doing my hair and she looked from me to Bree and back before nodding.
"That will look so cute on you both." Mom and Mrs. Moore was watching from their chairs and agreed before all the women got to work on us.
About and hour and a half later, both our hair and make up were done. I had a great evening look that would go with my dress perfectly and Bree had a lighter, much lighter version done. "Should we get our nails done?" I looked at Bree, who was smiling wide and nodded.
"You look just like a Queen," she told me as she wiggled to try and get down from the chair.
"Hold on, you," I said, standing to help her down. Her hand landing in mine as soon as she was steady on her feet. We were led to where our nails would get done and we sat down.
"What are we doing today, ladies?" The girl who sat in front of me asked.
I looked at Bree and we both smiled before saying, "yellow," at the same time. The lady laughed and waved to someone behind me. A younger girl walked over to us.
"This is my daughter, Macy. She will do your nails while I do your mommy's okay?" The woman told Bree.
"Oh, no, she isn't..." I started and watched her face blush a little.
