Flashback 1 year ago (Ashley's POV):

I woke up to the sound of my alarm. I stepped onto my plush carpet and got out of bed. I did some light stretching and headed towards my bathroom. I took a nice short energizing shower singing all the while.

I changed into my outfit that I had picked out last night and admired how it looked in the mirror. Satisfied, I moved onto doing my morning skincare routine. I cleansed my face and put on moisturizer with spf. After that, I put on some makeup going light and natural. I even put on my favorite lip balm. It has color, leaves my lips rosy, and super soft. With my makeup complete I headed downstairs to the kitchen.

I made coffee on the fancy machine that my mom loves as well. We both love it because we can even make iced coffee with it.

I then made a delicious omelette and sat at the dining table to enjoy it. Once I was done with breakfast I headed back upstairs. Upstairs, I checked my backpack to make sure I had everything I would need. Then I headed to school.

Once I arrived at the main entrance of the school, I saw my best friend Lauren waiting for me. I smiled widely and ran up to her. She smiled back at me and then hugged me.

"Hey hot stuff," she said to me.

"Right back at ya" I said to her and winked.

As we walked into the school and headed towards our locker, we kept being joined by our other friends. There was Darren, Luis, Abigail, and Marcos. We were a big group but we were all very close friends. I wouldn't say we were exactly popular. Everyone at school had heard of us at least once but we didn't pay much attention to others at school that often. We were already like a family. Also, we were only freshmen this year. The day went by as usual, we went to our classes and at the middle of the day, went to lunch. I sat down at our usual table right next to Darren. He smiled at me and I smiled back. We had known each other since fifth grade and were particularly close. I have had a huge crush on him since eighth grade but haven't told anyone. I didn't want to ruin our friendship.

"Since it's the weekend tomorrow, how about we all go to the mall?" said Sara to the whole group. Everyone in the group agreed.

I looked up at everyone and suggested, "We should also watch a movie"!

One thing I really love is spending time with my friends on the weekend. It gets me out of my house and I get to have some fun instead of being at home alone. After eating and chitchatting with each other, we headed back to our classes. After school I headed home. Once at home, I changed into some comfy sweats and did my homework. I completed everything and even did some of my assignments that were due later on. Once that was done, I headed downstairs toward the kitchen. My mom was standing there near the stove. Today was a rare weekend; she got to be at home. I saw that she was making diner and even baked something.

"Hi mommy!" I said as I walked over and gave her a hug. She smiled sweetly and stopped what she was doing to give me a hug.

"How was your day honey?" She asked me.

"It was great! Can I help you cook?" I answered.

"Of course!" she said as she grabbed the oven mitts and handed them to me. "Can you please check on the brownies for me sweetie?"

"Yeah sure." I opened the oven carefully and poked them with a toothpick to check if they were done. My mom is a very good cook and everyone in the family enjoys her food. It's our guilty pleasure; we are all lucky that she is fond of cooking and baking. The sad part is she doesn't get the chance to do it as often as she'd like.

Once dinner was served we sat down together to eat and had a great conversation. We conversed about what has been going on with one another. Even though my mom was busy often, we did our best to keep a great relationship. We discuss everything together and don't keep secrets.

After a very satisfying dinner, we sat at the living room and watched some tv. We enjoyed spending our evening together. After an hour I got ready for bed. I lay there and thought about my week. It wasn't particularly eventful but it was great. With a smile on my face I fell peacefully asleep. Had any of us known what would happen the following year, I'm sure we would have cherished these moments tenfold.
