. . .

The morning sunlight peeked past the dark curtains but barely illuminated the room. Jake stirred and cracked his eyes open to see a blurry version of Michael in front of him. He blinked a few times and yawned, then rubbed his eyes. His vision cleared and he noticed that Michael was still asleep. The mute's large chest rose and fell consistently while he displayed a content expression. The ravenette couldn't help the smile that pulled at his lips and he snuggled closer to the larger male's chest. The two were now cuddling under the cozy blankets. Michael's strong arms then instinctively wrapped around him, embracing the younger male and inducing another spell of drowsiness. And, within seconds, all Jake felt was warm and safe as he drifted back to sleep.

. . .

In less than an hour, the mute awoke next. With what little light there was, he could see Jake's sleeping form leaning against him. He smiled a little while he gently brushed some of his lover's hair away from his face. The ravenette looked peaceful and he refused to move just yet. So rather, Michael laid there staring at him, admiring every detail and feature. Jake snored softly and smooshed his face against his chest, somehow pressing himself closer to the mute's warm body.

. . .

"Michael?" Jake asked, his voice groggy and quiet. He felt the other side of the bed and realized that the mute was no longer laying with him. The sheets felt cool and empty, making him feel alone. He glanced around the room but didn't see any trace of him. Frowning, Jake slowly rose from the bed and slid on a pair of boxers before exiting the bedroom. "Michael?" He called out, searching for his boyfriend with growing worry. Going from the bathroom to the living room, Jake suddenly smelled food. Bacon and eggs...

Turning the corner, relief flooded him as he saw Michael standing in front of the stove. His hair was tied back in a loose pony tail and he had no shirt nor pants on, and was focused primarily on the food. The ravenette approached him and wrapped his arms around the larger male to give him a hug. "Thank you, Michael." Jake mumbled as he pressed his face into his lover's bare back. Michael simply nodded once at him before shutting off the stove. He evened out the food onto two plates and handed one to Jake. But, the smaller male kept his arms locked around his boyfriend's torso and did not let go. Glancing down at him, Michael set the plates back on the counter and turned to face Jake.

In one swift movement, Jake was hoisted up into the larger male's arms and carried to the dining room. The ravenette held onto Michael's neck and stared at his face. "I love you." He stated, in which Michael paused and leaned his head forward. Their foreheads touched and quietly, he responded, "I love you too." Those words alone made Jake's heart flutter and swell. But when he saw the loving gaze and small smile the mute presented, the younger male couldn't contain his happiness. He kissed Michael lovingly and smiled throughout it. And once they broke apart, Jake felt him slowly and gently set him down on the chair.

Jake watched as his boyfriend retrieved the two plates of food from the kitchen and sat down with him at the table. A grumble came from his stomach and he drooled a little, loving the smell of bacon. Before Jake had even picked up his fork though, he noticed Michael bow his head and close his eyes. "He prays before his meals?" The ravenette thought, now curious about why Michael was praying. "He must have grown up religious." He determined before joining his lover in a short prayer.

After breakfast, Jake stood and stretched, and then collected their empty plates. But as he was about to step away, Michael took a firm hold of his wrist. He glanced up at the mute and furrowed his eyebrows. Slowly, the taller male took the dishes from him and then kissed the top of his head. "Go shower." Was all Jake barely heard from him before his boyfriend left the room. Jake, of course, obliged to Michael's orders and headed for his bedroom to find some clean clothes.

"Hm...I'm gonna need to do some laundry today." Jake said to himself as he realized there were very few clothes left in his dresser and closet. He glanced over at his laundry basket and saw that it was mounded with dirty clothes. "A lot of laundry..." Jake sighed, then went to the bathroom down the hall. After getting a towel and wash cloth, Jake closed the bathroom door and began his shower. He let out a breath of relief while he felt his muscles relax from the warm water and leisurely worked on cleaning himself. But, Jake stopped when the door opened. Michael's tall and rather large form could be seen through the thin shower curtain and the ravenette smiled as his boyfriend joined him. He felt the mute slowly begin to caress his sides and hips, feeling his slick skin as he nipped his neck playfully. Jake gladly leaned into him and glanced up, his smile growing wider as his eyes met Michael's. "You're too handsome..." Jake whispered before he lovingly connected their wet lips.

. . .

Jake slid on some jeans and a light blue t-shirt while Michael dressed in his usual dark colors, which was mainly a mixture of black and blue. Then, they exited the bathroom and headed to the kitchen. Jake clicked a pen and picked up a note pad he had on his counter. "Okay, so today we need to do a few things.." The ravenette stated as he scribbled something down. "We gotta go to the store cause we're pretty short on groceries. And I have to stop by at Jessica's to get some stuff for the dog...then, we can go rent a movie or two." Michael listened intently, watching him open up cupboards and write things down.

A suddem but small whine caught the mute's attention and he turned to see the puppy they'd gotten sitting beside him. The dog stared up with drooped ears. Jake noticed, "I think she has to go to the bathroom." Nodding once, the taller male grabbed the leash off the counter and lead the dog outside. Jake closed the refrigerator, then grabbed his wallet and keys.

. . .

During the drive, Michael curiously turned on the radio and tilted his head. Jake glanced at him and cracked a smile, "Here, let me see if I can find a better station." He reached over and fiddled with the buttons, searching through the channels in hopes of finding a decent song. Once a song started playing that Michael recognized, he grabbed his boyfriend's hand in order to keep him from changing it. "You know that song?" Jake asked, in which Michael nodded.

His parents and sister would play Monopoly and Sorry! on the weekends, and go to church on Sunday mornings...and this song was new back then, and it played at least once a week on the radio...

Michael felt a rush of memories fill his head again, and with it came the terrible..cursed images of his lifeless sister. Unknowingly, he had not let go of Jake's hand and began gripping it harder now. "Michael?" The ravenette asked, wincing at the pain from the pressure around his fingers. "Michael?" He asked a bit louder but it still didnt phase him, and he felt the grip starting to constrict more. "Michael!" He now yelled as he ignored the light turning green and the beeping behind him. Suddenly the mute snapped his head towards him, a look of worry growing in his eyes as he let go immediately after realizing what he had done. A silent look of, "I'm sorry.", came from him and Jake intertwined their fingers while pulling into the store parking lot.

Turning off the car, Jake shifted in his seat and faced his lover. "Are you okay?" He asked with clear worry in his voice. Michael nodded with sad eyes, feeling an ache of guilt in his heart for hurting him. "What's wrong?" The ravenette questioned after noticing the look he held, "Bad memories again?" The other nodded solemnly, trying not to think about the gruesome and bloody images. He squeezed his hand and used his other to caress his boyfriend's cheek. "Its okay, Michael...you couldn't control it..and that's not you anymore. I'm here...and no, you didn't hurt me." Jake whispered, leaning in to give Michael a comforting kiss. They then rested their heads against one another and stayed there for a quiet moment. "I love you, Michael." Jake whispered and wrapped his arms around his lover, enveloping him in a warm hug.
