CHAPTER 6: I SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM
Musky. No. More like powdery. Yes. Powdery with a hint of spice. It was warm too. It was soft and warm and felt really good. What was this? Where was I? What was happening? Something heavy was wrapped around my waist. And my head was laying on something soft. I tried moving but my body failed me.
I squinted my eyes to answer all the questions in my head. At first it was dark. Then there were flashes of yellow light. It was familiar to me but I couldn't quite figure where I had seen it before. I inhaled and that sweet powdery scent filled my nose again. Smells so good, I thought. I willed my head up to get a better idea of where I was. I first noticed the yellow light above me as well as the white ceiling. Relief came over me as soon as my brain told me I was in the dorm. My eyes went shut again. It was so hard to keep them open. They felt more like rocks than layers of skin.
“Uuuummmm….” I heard something mumble from behind me. I turned my head and slowly opened my eyes. Jess and Seth were standing there, staring at me with open mouths. I blinked and turned my head away from them. When I did, I was greeted by a pair of sleepy eyes. They were a familiar ice blue. Upon recognizing my face, it smiled at me.
“Hey, you’re up.” I pulled my head back to see the bigger picture. Before I could muster a reply, I had pushed away from Christian and fell with a loud thud on the floor of the living room.
“Keira! Are you ok?” Christian bent down from the couch towards me.
“Ouch.” Was all I could say. My body wasn’t responding but my mind was slowly replaying what had just happened. Somehow, I had fallen asleep on the couch beside Christian. No, correction: I had fallen asleep IN his arms.
“Here let me help you up.” Christian had stood up and offered me a hand. Taking it, I pulled myself off the floor.
“What just happened here?” Seth asked with a curious look on his face.
“Keira fell asleep.” Christian said plainly.
“Uhum.”Seth replied.
“Are you ok? What happened? Your eyes are all puffy?” Jess had noticed the slight swelling my eyes had resulted to because of the crying. Crying because of an unexpected- not to mention unwanted-visitor.
“Audition. Damon. Long story.” I was slowly regaining consciousness.
“Damon?!” They both said at the same time. I jumped from their sudden reaction and leaned against Christian- who was still supporting me by the waist. Upon realizing it, I inched myself away.
“Damon, as in THE Damon!?” Jess asked.
“Yes. THE Damon.” I replied. “There isn’t any other Damon in my life.”
“I’ll get you some water.” Christian said allowing me to sit on the couch. Jess and Seth had done the same on the 2 ottomans opposite the couch I was sitting on.
“He came up to me after my audition. He’s studying in Lyric and will be part of the production this year. It was too much for me so I ran out of the auditorium. Christian found me in the garden and brought me home. “ I sighed. Christian had come back with a glass of water. I hadn’t realized I was thirsty until my lips came in contact with it.
“The nerve of that jerk.” Jess said.
“Imagine, 5 years without any form of communication and he just shows up?” Seth retorted. “Unbelievable.” I only nodded in agreement.
