CHAPTER 10
The car raced down the streets, smoothly and carelessly. Another sign of the amount of speed needed for this road in my vision. Red made herself comfortable against the seat of Ashley's car, in her hands, a GPS signal for the way our direction was headed. I had the address of our mission taped against the glass. I couldn't believe that after weeks of looking for a clue to lead us to any of his family members; we finally found it. They deserved to know, and we deserved to find out how they felt. How they felt about their son or brother in jail, locked up in a cell. Did they even care to know?
No words had been exchanged through us, only silence surrounded the atmosphere for most of the time. The flicker of our eyes to each other made the whole thing as awkward as it could get, then, we would always focus back onto something else, knowing it was too awkward for the whole reason. We were arriving closer and closer to the town, every shop that had come to our view gave us some kind of clue. It had been almost four hours that we had been on the road, desperate searching of a sign that gave us a good sense that we had found the town.
In just two minutes, shops, buildings, and houses came to my attention, a right corner being taken by me as I made my way down the streets of the town. It was now, that I didn't dare to focus on the name of the town, but the name of her streets, her address. The closer i got to the middle of our destination, the more anxious I found myself getting. We were demanding to meet an unknown woman that we never knew except from the case that was proven to be solved anytime soon. I held onto the smallest believe that was still kept.
A silence occurred in the atmosphere, nothing but the sound of the wasting of gas, then, a voice spoke up. "It seems like we're lost. The road that we passed had a corner, and we had just missed it. Do a U turn." she demanded for the sake of our case, her voice, tight and strict as a high school professor. Her jaw had been clenched while speaking her words, indescribable eyes straight ahead.
I nodded. "You're right."
At the moment of my words, my hands swivelled around the steering wheel in a left motion, the focus of the car doing my exact actions, motions. I focused my eyes on the streets not onto her freaky orbs, focused my nose to the direction of the glass not to her six inch nails. She had the features of a female gothic legend, eyes traced with the object of a pure black eyeliner, too much that you couldn't catch a sight of the shade of her eyes, long, devilish nails, and big dangling earrings. Without this much accessories, she would have held the look of a responsible interrogator.
In focus of not wanting to miss the same turn, my mind gripped attention of reality, the same turn appeared to my image. And, I followed the instructions of the direction teller, entering fallen way that lead to the direction of fallen drive. It took over ten minutes of frustration, huffing and puffing to finally get attention of the pole that stood proud and tall, written in bold words; fallen drive. My eyes caught Red's, both our lips curled up in satisfaction, shifting the car to the corner of the entrance.
Parking to the home that read the numbers 168, all my provided attention was focused to the one piece home, itself. No cars parked to the driveway, my guess being it was stored in the garage. We followed each other up the stairs, all our material we needed for her to actually let us in instead of thinking we were female terrorists. Two rings to the doorbell and footsteps appeared in our directions.
And, in just seconds, she appeared.
Her green orbs stared at us in confusion and hesitation. the little girl I had caught a sight of at her page latched onto her hips. She questioned. "Hi?" I gulped, with no words. Red stared at the girl who cowered back and hid at the crook of her mom's neck. "I swear, I didn't take it. " she instantly defended, her right hand held up in surrender.
